No, I can get telephone service. (Though, I just cancelled my landline in favor of a PagePlus cellphone) It's just that Verizon (the only provider here) doesn't have a DSLAM close enough to my house for them to supply me with DSL.

56k.
Perfectly reasonable for general internet browsing (like Facebook) and email.

Any tips for cutting down on my data usage?

I just got the 6GB/month plan from Sprint as my primary internet connection. (Well, it was either that or satellite ) And I'm using way too much data. (5GB in 18 days) Are there any browser tweaks/plug-ins that can keep me from reloading redundant data? I'm using Chrome. Also, if there's anything else you could recommend, I'd be grateful for the info.

I'm not sure if this is in the right forum, but I didn't think that it would be entirely inappropriate here.

Your only option is to leave the U.S.

I just got rid of that shit, LMAO. Though, I appreciate your recommendation.

Just suggesting that the cost of 56k for basic internet like email, Facebook, anandtech, ect. is probably cheaper than upgrading your data plan.

There is no way for you to really cut down on your data unless you change your internet habits significantly.

6GB/month plan from Sprint as my primary internet connection.

How much do you pay? Just used that much bandwidth < 1 hour. ^_^

Comcast Business Class HSI for $59.99, unlimited (no 250gb cap).

I'm betting the OP isn't a Steam user with that plan.

Best suggestions are blocking everything or just going back to 56k imo

@SKORPI0 I (err, my Mom) pay(s)$50/month.

Nope, I do use Steam... and it's fucking infuriating. (I don't download games with Steam, I'm just forced to use it by the fucking douchebag software publishers) I wouldn't mind it too badly if I wasn't forced to download updates for a fucking SINGLE-PLAYER game. (like Metro 2033)

Retracted.

Cant risk angering the moderators anymore. And knowing them, they could easily convince Anand that posting a link to Maxim is offensive and ban-worthy.

You should really try to cancel that contract. 2014 and unable to use the internet? My gawd!

You might want to look into just using your mobile phone for internet.

With your net, I'd put Steam into offline mode and also click on each game and tell it to not automatically update the game for when you do have to go online with Steam.

Tip from a fellow low-data dude:

I also have a data limit. I'd use a big chunk of it listening to music on Youtube. So now, what I do is write down any song I want and keep a list of "Songs to Download." Then when I go out to Starbucks, the library, or anyplace with wifi I take my netbook and download the songs I want onto my hard drive.

Thank you. Even if put rudely, this is sound advice.

if you cant get anything other than cellular or sattelite... then the ONLY thing to do is MOVE..

sorry to say it... but it's true.

When i move.. the NUMBER ONE thing on my list is Service Provider Speed.

If i can't get broadband... i dont care what the place/area is like.

i LIVE on broadband. it's part of my life & job.
