How many rice eaters here have a $200+ rice cooker?
I was shopping for one in an asian supermarket and was amazed at their prices.
Dude, I have a cheap ($40) rice cooker from Target and it still does a nice job.

Some of my asian coworkers commented the other day at lunch their disappointment in being continually served bread as opposed to rice. I find rice a little bland, but cheap and good when mixed in a meal. Still, I prefer the good ole potato, the white man's carb.
Potatoes are MUCH more nutritious than rice, FYI.
Then why do rice eaters live longer than potato eaters?
Could it have to do with the massive culture differences between Asians and Westerners?

Of course not, but I didn't it expect it to.
I never meant to imply that one should buy a $40 cooker and nothing else, but that decently cooked rice can still be had for $40. EvilYoda said "don't skimp out and buy a cheap one" but if someone doesn't need all those features for another $100+, they most likely don't need to spend the money.
All it has is a teflon coated bowl, and it keeps the rice warm after it is cooked. I've never had an issue with it.

My speciality for pot-luks is "Devil's Rice." I take a nice rice mix and then stir fry vegies and a habanero pepper and mix it all together. It gets really spicey, whichis totally unexpected because rice usually quells spice

I would like one. just need something to keep the rice warm/fresh for about 2 hours. i eat kinda slow but would also like it kinda fresh for a snack latter.
also heard many of them tend to burn the rice. i cant afford to burn rice! its way to expensive! heh

I never eat the white rice that comes with japanese or chinese food. Everytime I eat lunch with my asian coworkers, they're like "Aren't you eating your rice???!" Like I'm some kind of freak.
