I bet you can't bear to eat Hot Wings without rice either, right?

In Hawaii you can get a McDonalds breakfast that consists of rice, spam and eggs.
Growing up in Hawaii you learn to eat rice with everything also. You get 2 scoops of rice with any type of plate lunch.

I think just plain rice with nothing is nasty. Maybe stir-fried with soem vegetables/sauce, then its good :)

Potatoes are MUCH more nutritious than rice, FYI.

Then why do rice eaters live longer than potato eaters?

a bowl of white rice is awesome with meats, because it complements very well with the salty part of the meats. As a matter of fact, any thing super flavorful will go great with rice.

what rice does not go great with is plain food. For example, rice does not go well at all with plain veggies. Obviously you would not eat rice with a salad.

rice has to be hot or warm, it cannot be cold, and please, never pur soup into a bowl of rice, that's just not right.

best is hot, plain, white, sushi rice sticking together with some sizzling beef slices....hmmmmmmmm :D

This happens to everyone. Rice is like the most essential ingredient for any meal. I'm not just saying this because I'm Asian~ Btw, white rice > fried rice.

Rice has its time and place. At home my mom would make rice with something a few times a week. On my own I only eat rice every couple of weeks.

It was interesting when I moved to Brazil to see that they eat rice and beans with every meal, no matter what else they made for lunch. Countless times I ate lunch with regular Brazilian families who would make rice, beans, spaghetti, steak, some fried eggs, and a salad. I would always just sit back and think, why did you make all this food? I would have been fine with just spaghetti, or just rice and steak, or steak and eggs.

my grandparents came to the USA from Ireland in the early 1900s - and growing up in the 1970s we ate potatoes at almost every meal.

I HATE POTATOES NOW

I visited vietnam over the summer. a month of ONLY BLOODY FREAKING RICE has drove me insane. I'm used to a slovakian diet which isnt really that interesting. Bread roll, ham, :morning. Meat peirogi or potatoe and meat evening. Anyhow, while i used to love rice, and did for three weeks out of four, in the end the similarly made rice has killed me. Now i can't eat any asian influenced rice =p

Wow, I actually agree with you for once. I love spicy, salty dishes complemented by rice and a cold beverage. Although I'm used to rice with almost every meal growing up, I'm fine with a meal without rice. Now meat on the other hand...is almost essential.

OK, I'm really hungry for rice now. Someone post some good recipes for dishes that feature rice.
