Any one else hate carpet?

I prefer a mix of both. You can't beat hardwood for beauty or ease of maintainence. However, carpet feels better when you get out of bed, insulates the floor, and does a great deal for noise reduction. I'd stick to hardwood for the high-traffic areas like the hallways, living room, and kitchen. Tile for the bathrooms and carpet for bedrooms and anything else.
 
Pretty funny that some of you get so emotional about carpet or hardwood. Seriously, it's just flooring people. Some places look better with carpet, some with tile, and some with hardwood. I've seen great uses of all three of them.
 
My house has hardwood or tile in the kitchen, dining room and bathrooms and carpet everywhere else. Hardwood certainly looks classier but, if you ask me, vacuuming carpet is easier than sweeping + mopping hardwood. I hate all the little grits that standout in your hardwood, and accumulate so quickly. At least carpet hides that. You don't have to worry as much about stains with hardwood, but you also don't have to worry as much about damaging the actual floor with carpet.

They each have their pros and cons.

my current apartment has carpet in the living room and my landlord indicated that he'd be OK if I wanted to remove it (and was willing to pay to have whatever is under there buffed up if necessary) but I've been afraid to. there are a couple spots on the carpet where something sharp is sticking up and I don't want to find out what it is.
 
I abhor carpet. Filthy, nasty stuff.

It stinks of chemicals, pollutes the air, collects filth, and is a breeding ground for pestilence. And no, vacuuming does not render it clean.

I suppose it was a fad (particularly "wall to wall"), created by industry marketing; just s'more crap for the middle-class to buy against all reason.
 
I don't hate carpet specifically, but I do definitely prefer a hard floor. Countless benefits - easier to clean, nothing gets trapped in the carpet and can just be swept up, I personally prefer the look of it, etc.

I think there's still some time before hard floors are accepted with more people, but the number of people starting to prefer it is growing. I've had a lot of people tell me that a home without carpet just isn't a home, and I see why they would hesitate, but after you give it a chance or just let the thought sink in, it's not a problem at all.
 
I look at a home with carpet like a car with spinners: removal will be an extra expense so it has effectively been devalued.
