Any one else hate carpet?

I could understand if you people lived in saskatchewan or something, but I just looked at your profile and you're in florida...jesus, why do you need your house to be warmer? I'm in northern NJ right now and our house is entirely hardwood. It's over 100 years old, so it's by no means energy efficient, but the floors are fine in the winter (and our PSE&G bills aren't out of line). We're building an extremely energy efficient house in NOLA and it will NEVER have a stitch of carpet.
 
A nice mix of the two is what I prefer, I guess. I like my bedroom to be carpeted (even though I have allergies, just hate cold floor in winters), and the computer room/living room I prefer to be hardwood.

 
My vote would be for mix. (carpet/wood)


No way I could do without carpet. Dirty hard floors are as bad (or worse) than dirty carpet, imo.

hardwood= scratch damage and no padding.

carpets fine if you steam vac every year.

Then get yourself a swifter wetjet. Cleaning hardwood floors is easy.

its not just phsical feeling. but interior design. unlike wood floors carpets come in many styles and colors, a level of choice that hardwood cannot compete with. each has its place, but not every design goes with hardwood. light reflects and the color and surface quality of surfaces within rooms affects the mood.
 
No, I hate hardwoods. They look nice, but aren't practical. They are cold in the winter and scratch easily, especially with a large dog.

It doesn't just have to be wood, a mix of tile, wood, and other surfaces across a house offers many styles and colors, obviously. Learn about rugs and other floor coverings if youw ant to add a "mood" to a room. I tore enough stinking ugly carpet up in this house, covering up beautiful oak floors. I can't believe some numbnut back in the 70s put that horrible ugly stuff down to suit their "mood."
 
When we bought our house it had the nicest carpet of any house I have ever lived in. We ripped it all out and replaced it with tile. Much better. Better airflow, cleaner, cooler in Summer.

When I got my dog (he was about 12 years old at the time) I built him a dog house. That doghouse was the best planned and built construction project I have ever produced. He never spent a single night in it. It seems, given the choice, dogs prefer to sleep in the house, on the bed, snuggled up next to you, all sixty pounds of husky/shepherd fur against your body, in a house with no AC, in high Summer.
