Intern! Ha! You're the person who puts all his bitch work off on me, except your not medical 😉. Major respect for you.

Being a medical/surgical intern sucks! While the other members of your team are off doing surgery or other cool things, you're left trolling the floors trying to figure out what happened to Mr. X's stool sample or why Mr. Z's family doesnt want to pick him up. Complete pain in the butt but there's only a couple months left. 😀

If youve got a discrete mass under your ribs that causing your pain you should probably have it looked at, sooner rather than later but if you have to wait for insurance to kick in then go ahead.

Without actually examining it, I cant really give you any good information. Does the pain change with your menstrual cycle (breast neoplasms), eating (gall bladder, though the location is odd), exercise (cardiac, aneurysms), breathing (lung pathology, rib infections/inflammation/neoplams), etc... The spleen rarely ever has discrete nodules that cause pain, and I dont think the spleen itself even has pain fibers to it. Have you had any hiccups (lesions that contact the diaphragm)? It might be a simple calcified perihilar lymph node, but then a reason for you to have that would need to be undertaken.

It's hard to diagnose people over the internet but the number one cause of chest pain is costochondritis, a simple self limited cartilage inflammation. Anyway, see your doctor ASAP, Im sure they can help you out.

It seems like i do get indigestion alot. Sometimes in that area i get this weird feeling that almost feels like that cramp you get sometimes after running for a long time. I have a little asthma but it doesnt seem affected by my breathing. No hiccups.

Im fairly certain that if you mention that you have indigestion, than any pain in your left chest is going to be chalked up to GERD (Gastro-esophageal reflux disease). It's failry benign and youll be given either an H2-blocker (no, not for the SUV) or a PPI. But than again, if the pain is from a discrete source, than that's a little different. If you're young and dont have cardiac risk factors, they probably wont even pursue much of a MI (heart attack) work up.

Does GERD cause am achey sore pain in the left side under the ribs though?

Do you feel your pain as being more superficial/musculoskeletal or visceral/deep? Superficial pain will buy you a chest xray (maybe) to rule out rib fractures or neoplasms, but you might just get NSAIDS and told to come back if it continues. Deep pain is a little harder to diagnose since there are many more causes, though an aching pain is usually more musculoskeletal. Sharp pain, or pressure like pain is more worrisome. The most common cause of an achy chest pain is costrochonditis which is not going to show up on any x-ray or lab test. It usually goes away in a few days by itself. But like I said before, if you do have a discrete nodule, than that has to be worked up.

it is not a sharp pain. its hard to explain. its more of a ache that a pain. its feels more like an ache as if you hurt something. it is under the ribs but also goes to my back. it does not feel very deep. ive had it for months now.

It's on the wrong side but it sounds like a gall bladder problem I had until they took it out. The pain would start somewhere in the middle lower part of my chest and then gravitate to my back. I would not even be able to breath, it kind of felt like someone punched me there real hard. And it was a dull ache type pain. The attacks would last 2 or 3 hours and then go away. They got very severe towards the end. Of course I'm no doctor.

The reason why i dont think its my gallbladder is because it is never a severe pain. It either feels sore and achey or it feels like the cramp you get in your side after running too much.

I've got the same thing, but mine started after getting kicked in the ribs. Still with me a month later. Probably bruised or fractured some ribs. I really need to get it x-rayed.

i didnt get kicked in the ribs or anything 🙂 so mine just hurts for no reason 🙁

i had something similar before but it was due to a bear hug..some fartknocker was playing with me
and gave me a huge bear hug...i think he was drunk. I could hardly breathe and for the next 2mths
i experienced aches around the ribs/chest when i stretched or breathe hard. i never saw any doc and healed.

Luckily my breathing is okay, its only bothersome when my asthma is being a jerk 🙂

Do you run or jog? I get that pain when I run and I was paranoid. Went to the doctors, had an x-ray and bloodwork done. They found nothing so I figured it was the runner's stitch. 😕

Ever since I was young, I've had strange side pains. I'm still here so whatever it was, it wasn't fatal.

You are pressing in the wrong area then....😉 You will need an exam. There is nothing concrete enough about side pain for even a veteran doc to make anything, but a guess.

sounds like costochondritis but it's hard to say without an exam and obtaining some more history from you. go see your doc.

You're only 5 days late repeating that information...

for those wondering about this condition: costochondritis

Thing is seriously who knows what it is she has with such limited description....

It's like saying sneezing sounds like a common cold. You'd be right some of the time, wrong a lot of the time with no further testing.
