Our house has an ants problem...
From the looks of things, they're able to get into the house from the gap between the garage door and the wall. I don't think i can seal that up without wielding the garage door permantely shut. From there, they pretty much have easy access to the rest of the house.
We've scattered ant traps thoughout the garage and the house (the type that has poisoned food in them, designed to kill the hive) and while they do go for the traps, it doesn't seem to be killing them off. We've had the traps out for over 3 months now, and haven't noticed any change.
In addition, any time there's any food left out, even in small amounts, they swarm all over it. Last night I heated some bread in the toaster over, a small piece must have broken off and fell off the tray because I woke up this morning to a whole column of ants going into the toaster. It was so bad that after i had finished spraying them, I could literally reach in and grab an entire fistful of ant bodies.
They're also found randomly all around the house. I've seen a couple in the bathroom, some on my desk, some in the washer / dryer room. Usually when there's no food around, it's just the random 1 or 2 crawling around.
I try to run a clean house - sealing up food, vacuuming once a week, etc. but I can't help droping 1 or 2 crumbs every once in a while, and its those that cause the swarm.
Anything else I could do?
