Whats more interesting is the two ties. 1 and 2 were tied and 3 and 4 were tied, both Hamms came out on the losing end of the tie breakers.

What's the procedure for a tie breaker? Do they do a new event?

Haha. The plot thickens. I think the Romanian guy should have won the pommel (sp?) horse event. Instead they gave it to the the Chinese.
I also am not so sure the Greek guy was the best on rings. But hey, host country, gotta Greece the wheels.

Judged events are always going to have this unless they can review tape and then decide the results.

I wonder if there is sympathy from Greeks for Russia, a fellow predominantly Orthodox Christian nation.

Obviously you don't know much about the star Russian Alexei Nemov. He's been around for a long time and won many titles. he's also very good looking and has fans everywhere. The audience who cheered for him are from various countries.

So he should have higher score because of the above reasons?

Of course not, but the audience obviously felt his performance deserved better than 9.725.

Last time I checked it was the Olympics, not a popularity contest judged by the audience.
Oh, and if you had watched you would have seen Nemov had an amazing routine. Certainly better then Paul Hamms.

After watching the repeat coverage of the event - it's totally evident that the Russian was better than Hamm, he deserved 2nd place. His whole performance was nearly perfect, and the judges were all gawking about how the Russian had just made gymnastics history with his routine. It was truly phenomenal - the only visible mistake was his dismount where there was a hop on the landing.
