Another nasty scene in gymnastics

Audience interruptted the event for 10 minutes and judges were forced to re-score the star Russian. I'm not sure it's judges' fault or the audience's fault. But one thing which I'm sure is: this Olympic gymnastics is so fvcked up.

so they gave him a slightly higher score to shut the crowd up, yet didn't help him in the standings, so it backfired. They need to find new judges.

Whats more interesting is the two ties. 1 and 2 were tied and 3 and 4 were tied, both Hamms came out on the losing end of the tie breakers.

What's the procedure for a tie breaker? Do they do a new event?

They dont do another round. Im not sure how they do it they havent quite elaborated on how they do it.

Paul Hamm lost out on the Gold tie breaker, and Morgan Hamm lost out on the Bronze tie breaker.

I believe I heard that they go to score cards and the person who had the least amount of markdowns wins the tiebreaker.

Haha. The plot thickens. I think the Romanian guy should have won the pommel (sp?) horse event. Instead they gave it to the the Chinese.
I also am not so sure the Greek guy was the best on rings. But hey, host country, gotta Greece the wheels.

Judged events are always going to have this unless they can review tape and then decide the results.

I think that's what they should do. Review the damn tapes before giving scores. Dont just eyeball.

I don't understand how people who watch the sport only once every 4 years think they are more qualified to judge than those who have lived and breathed it for most of their lives.

I wonder if there is sympathy from Greeks for Russia, a fellow predominantly Orthodox Christian nation.

Obviously you don't know much about the star Russian Alexei Nemov. He's been around for a long time and won many titles. he's also very good looking and has fans everywhere. The audience who cheered for him are from various countries.

So he should have higher score because of the above reasons?

Of course not, but the audience obviously felt his performance deserved better than 9.725.

Last time I checked it was the Olympics, not a popularity contest judged by the audience.

They just showed it here. First of all the judges were fvckin blind, it was a nearly flawless routine in which he was head and shoulders above anyone else, bad dismount though....

Score shouldn't have been changed but the Canadian and Venezualan judges should have been caned and beaten for low balling him.

Oh, and if you had watched you would have seen Nemov had an amazing routine. Certainly better then Paul Hamms.

This is my first time seeing this.

Absolutely ridiculous. The gymnasts should all get together and demand that these cracked out scores be changed. I mean, there is just no way these numbers are anywhere near correct. The judging has been horrible all night.

Agreed. I mean, go USA and all that, but Paul's exercise was bronze at best compared to the difficult routines of Nemov and what's-his-name who got the gold. Nemov was robbed. It's not Hamm's fault at all, and I feel bad that he's going to have to deal with all the controversy surrounding his medals.

They weren't even on the same level. The Russian guy was owning everyone until the dismount.

After watching the repeat coverage of the event - it's totally evident that the Russian was better than Hamm, he deserved 2nd place. His whole performance was nearly perfect, and the judges were all gawking about how the Russian had just made gymnastics history with his routine. It was truly phenomenal - the only visible mistake was his dismount where there was a hop on the landing.

Hamm didn't have a clean landing either. The judges are really biased.

yeah the Russian guy was amazing.

The crowd ruined it though. i'm sure a LOT of people lost respect for the judges (if they had any) with them changing the score.

but what impressed me was the attitude and reaction of the Russian guy. Man he showed a lot of class. You can tell he truly loves his sport.
