You do realize that the number of Central American families and men with children crossing the border in remote locations to gain asylum has dramatically increased during the past several months and is overwhelming border resources, right? Various officials have been raising the red flag on this issue for months. Trump’s wall is not going to fix this problem nor will a border shutdown or stopping aid to Central America. This is a border crisis whether you want to admit it or not. Even Obama’s DHS secretary confirms this is a crisis. Both repub and dem legislators need to get off their asses to fix this problem. Obama tried to fix this type of problem in 2014 by setting up asylum processing in the originating countries but Trump stopped it.

Since you seem to be keeping up on things can you answer me this; it is my understanding that the current policy is to detain asylum seekers until their case is heard. Was that the policy previously under past presidents? If not what was their policy regarding asylum?
