<< The last earthquake in Taiwan caused memory prices to go up about 20% overnight. Currently there is such an oversupply even that won't make a difference. >>

I don't know if I would agree with that. Memory is almost a commodity now. If there was a big earthquake again I would bet prices would rise pretty darn fast... even if they shouldn't.

The reason prices didn't rise this time.... there was no damage to the facilities. Last time, the damage to the area (Hsinchu Science Technology Park) was not exactly severe but caused delays in manufacturing. They were out of power for about a week. TSMC and one other Fab is in that park. Only if there is damage to the facilities or delays in manufacturing will you ever see prices rise.

I remember in '94 when RAM was $8/meg for SIMMs.... So cheap now, that I can hardly restrain myself from maxing out the computers. 🙂

There is so much memory out on the market right now, it isn't funny.

The only way I can see memory prices going up 25 percent or more - with the current economic situation the way it is - would be the major DRAM manufacturers cutting production, a massive, devestating earthquake in the Asian Rim; AND a new mainstream OS requiring more RAM.

Last summer, I was selling 64 MB PC100 DIMMs for $60.00 each. Relatively speaking, I've never seen memory this inexpensive.

The Crucial memory is a bargain, by the way.

<< It is true that WinME can't recognize more than 512MB of memory >>

This is incorrect. While there is a bug with Win 9x systems with 512MB or more that can cause problems, the OS does recognize the RAM. So if you are using a program like PhotoShop, the RAM will be available. The OS itself won't do much with it however.

Here is the link about the problem with workarounds:
Large Amounts of RAM and Win9x

My motherboard is an asusK7M, but i'll be upgrading to the Abit KA7-100 as soon as I can find a new one that isn't overpriced. YEah i saw the crucial configuration menu, pretty nifty i must say. Tnx for the help anyways though.

RAM RAM RAM...
Do i really need it? Currently 256MB in my slow k6-2 350 with Win2k.
Well, I don't think I REALLY need it. Maybe when it drops again 🙂

just ordered a 128 PC100 stick from crucial yesterday for the kid's box. did some shopping around and cant beat the cost anywhere once you add in free shipping.

what has me sick is that i want to add another half gig to my dell precision workstation (RDRAM PC600 RImm 184-pin proprietary) and those prices are still pretty high up there in comparison. best i saw was about $400 for a 512mb kit. sigh. sometimes going outside the industry standard sux.

I also ordered a stick of 128 pc100 for the emachine. Friday night when I checked the price, it was just under $30 and Saturday it was $28.04 (with 15% discount). In 2 days when we get it, the price will have dropped again and Crucial doesn't like to give credit back for the difference.

remember folks...i815E chipset from Intel has 512MB limits.

Thanks I learned that just before buying my two sticks of Crucial.com Micron 256MB PC133 CAS2 RAM.

is it ture that 15% discount on web promo is good for first time purchase coz i try to click on the link on the webpromo instead it brings me to the same page with this written on the side

This discount offer is good for first-time purchases of a single memory upgrade purchase online and Crucial reserves the right to cancel this offer at any time without notice to you. $217 for ONE meg back in '90. This was to bump my 386 up to 2 full megs !! At that point, you could use it as extended memory and SEE the pilots hand on the joystick react just as you were in Wing Commander !😀 We've come a long way, baby.

Just odered 2 sticks of 256 DDR PC2100. Damn, my 2 sticks of Crucial 128 DDR PC2100 (that I just bought 3 months ago) are now useless! Anybody need em??

You guys are making me go broke, but I love it!

Huhhh?? Anyone know where these guys are located. I just ordered 1 256MB stick of CAS2 for my MSI Pro2A, and got hit with $1.83 in tax. I live in Colorado. Are they located in CO also??

(This puts my machine up to 512. Should last me for a bit, including with WinXP, I hope...)
