I don't know if I would agree with that. Memory is almost a commodity now. If there was a big earthquake again I would bet prices would rise pretty darn fast... even if they shouldn't. >>
The reason prices didn't rise this time.... there was no damage to the facilities. Last time, the damage to the area (Hsinchu Science Technology Park) was not exactly severe but caused delays in manufacturing. They were out of power for about a week. TSMC and one other Fab is in that park. Only if there is damage to the facilities or delays in manufacturing will you ever see prices rise.
I remember in '94 when RAM was $8/meg for SIMMs.... So cheap now, that I can hardly restrain myself from maxing out the computers.
