Another day, another school shooting

Oh, and to those who cannot imagine having an accident with their firearms, good for you. To paraphrase: As we all know, hubris always wins the day. The Greeks taught us that.

So in chucky's world, a gun, baseball bat, knife, and car are all equivalent.

Thanks for demonstrating your point of view with such alacrity.

And I was responding to WD asking what should happen to the parents...

What is it about the difference between a knife and a gun that makes one acceptable to have stolen and used illegally and the other not?

Oh, sillypants, I wasn't talking about how your gun relates to fear. I was asking if you had anything to fear at all. Literally anything. You seem beyond fear as a concept with your level of certitude. So I was genuine curious if like bugs freak you out, or heights or something else.

Oh, well of course I'm scared of bugs. I shoot at them all the time. They're really hard to hit though, so I usually go through a couple of magazines. The neighbors complain about it when I accidentally hit their dog, but I just tell them I was standing my ground against a spider and they shut up.

I know people only own guns for two reasons: fear or boredom. Some of the fears are entirely rational, as is the case with protecting livestock, while other fears are absurd. Then there are people who just get a kick out of guns as a hobby.

Do you have some other deeper motivation you'd care to elaborate on?

I don't expect that you will. It's fine. You would never waste your time educating someone you've already determined is a fool. I mean what's the point, right, bro?

You're really reaching new lows of foolishness.

And you're adding nothing to the discussion.

But please, do explain your reasons for owning firearms and how they are not related to either boredom or fear. I'll check back to see your reasons.

Cut your steak with your gun and I'll let you know.

Also, who ever said it was acceptable? Infer more! MORE!

Try defending your home with a car.

You asked if gun owners should be responsible for crimes committed with their guns. chucky asked if other items with potential for use in murder should be treated likewise. Your snide responses about cutting steak with a gun and similar indicate that you find misuse of those items acceptable from the POV of the owner of said item.

Ditto.

Your opinion doesn't warrant a respectful response. You're trying to categorize enjoyment of an activity as "boredom" in an attempt to invalidate it. Do you categorize everything outside of labor, eating, and bowel movements as "boredom" or do you reserve that special title just for firearms because you don't like them?

Once again, WackyDan asked what should happen to the parents of the kid who used their gun to murder someone. I was extrapolating.

I'm also cool with people working with heavy machinery while taking Xylex.

Or you could see I'm just trying to have a discussion, not get stuck with taking a position and defending it against the bloodthirsty argument-fiends.

Instead of just asking me the difference, why not explain the lack of differences. I'm against all violent crime, regardless of what's used. I know that makes me quite an outsider and clearly part of that other ideology than the one you like... or something.

For being so many people dicking around, you really need a higher tolerance for dickery.

What the fuck? Stop being a whiny kid just because I'm talking frankly about your precious. Everyone does just about everything as a response to boredom. I even used the word hobby. I'm not labeling it as some evil form of amusement like snuff films or shit. Just trying to get people to be honest about their motivations. Folks motivated to own guns are at their core bored or afraid. It's just reality. You trying to gussy it up into something noble or whatever become the one just bullshitting.

Respectful response? How about just an answer then, toughnuts?

I call you toughnuts, because you demonstrate a fortitude of testicles that exceeds the average. I could be wrong, but I think toughnuts fits you fine. Correct me if I'm wrong on that one, too.

Not really. Jackass is the one alleging that 4 inanimate objects are somehow different in some special liberal feels way.

And dumbass needs to label with wicked "liberal" anyone that speaks against the code of toughnuts. I'm assuming you also have the balls of greater density that I ascribed to Bober. I hope they are never taken for granted or neglected.

It feels like a your mom joke belongs here, but I'm going to resist.

Gun control is a liberal idea. QED someone arguing for gun control is arguing a liberal position.

Maybe you should look at yourself and why you feel the need to lash out at someone who chooses to own a firearm as "toughnuts"?

I don't. I label them as responding to fear or boredom. The two great motivators. Then I see who decides to admit to which and who decides they are special because their balls are so strong!

You've said nothing to make me think you're any less a fool than I originally thought.

OK, you were extrapolating; what is your actual view on punishing gun owners for crimes committed with their guns?

I don't think I understand your point on "why not explain the lack of differences". What similarity is there between a car, a baseball bat, and a gun? I see very little. If your point is "Exactly", then you're just asking the question I already answered (their shared ability to be used in violent crime).

This is the best article I've read in a long time about school shootings, and the author is right. We completely miss the point.

http://markmanson.net/school-shootings

After the Reynolds High incident, my friend (a teacher in a district about an hour from Reynolds) asked everyone:

What are you doing today to ensure this doesn't happen again?

Are you talking to your children? Volunteering your time with troubled youth?

Or just arguing on the internet about the NRA and Bloomberg?

And you're just as awesome and special as I figured you for. Yep, your hobby stands as noble and pure and frankly unassailable. Don't let me with my jackass attitude come anywhere close to provoking you to consider why you do the things you do, and possibly see how your hobbies are likely about as unimportant as anyone's.

I'm not threatening your hobby. How could I with these soft and sensitive balls of mine? I sit on mine and wind up uncomfortable for hours. You've demonstrated repeatedly that you have the balls of a marble statue knocking around in your scrotum, and thus have so much less to fear than me. You are literally a better man. I just want to know if your ownership of firearms is because you're bored or afraid, since it's one of those two at its core.
