Hypothetically, if what Red Squirrel says does turn out to be true somehow, no one is going to come back here and apologize to him, admitting they were wrong and he was right. That's just how us humans are. We are quick to ostracize but almost never say, "Thanks for bringing this theory to our attention. We'll keep this in mind as we do our own research and draw our own conclusions". I wouldn't really put much faith in "experts". They are often behind the biggest of blunders.

If it tracks with the Norm, it will never turn out he is right somehow. That's the problem and multiple posts have pointed out that it is the Norm with actual statistics.

Bullshit, owning up to one's mistake is fundamental. What kind of mistake do you think the National Fire Protection Association can make on this matter? BTW virtually every jurisdiction in North America follows the code NFPA developed for fire safety.

Nutty Squirrel also said ten thousand cow died... Meanwhile 640,000 farm animals died in BC flood.

Here is why those cows died.

I'm no expert so can't say much about that. No experience making NFPA mistakes :p

Similar thing happened to a neighbor of mind and one of my coworker. However, after presenting the facts/information, one actually gone back and do more research, and then realized the 'truth' and that he has been played. He has since do more researches so he is getting multiple view points and information from multiple sources, before making any judgements. So he got his head out of the sand and I am glad he did.

The other one, kept refusing to believe the facts... Doing researches only on sites that also has altered information because they were tied to certain... social group/agenda.. etc whatever you call them. So his view point became very limited, and thus only thinking he was right and everyone was wrong.

Back to topic.

Also the pandemic has been hard on factories, as less workers and inspectors are there to maintenance and inspect the machines and building.

Just like the travel industry now, less staffing to handle the load when people are starting to fly again, or cooks and servers in restaurants as the crowd returned but many workers didn't.

The problem is that folks who think like that guy have no interest in learning the truth, all they're looking for is material that will confirm their pre-conceived beliefs.

And garbage social-media (Looking @ you META) steps right up to provide it!

Having said that, just like in that Mel Gibson movie "Conspiracy Theory" even Red MAY one day get something like this right! (it could happen!)

;)

For example: *(low-quality video)

Remember just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're NOT out to get you!

:p

I think many of these conspiracy right wingers have some kind of inferiority complex. We know there is a large anti-intellectual movement in the US where those who don't go to college pass judgment on those who did. These people want to feel superior to their college educated family member so they start looking for conspiracy theories to feel like they've "discovered" something even a college educated person missed. It makes them feel smarter. Then when they are presented with the truth that their theory is wrong they cannot admit they were wrong because they cannot handle being told they are wrong by someone who went to college. They deflect not by arguing the facts of the matter but engage in character assassination by writing them off as stupid leftist college educated elites.

oh, so you have no response for "why don't you actually investigate what normal means, before demanding that something is abnormal?"

literally no response for that?

it's because you don't care, right? That's the reason.

Or, hopefully, you are realizing now how stupid you have been, and will slowly start to wake up.
He'll probably just continue to dive deeper into the sewage pond to find out how deep it really goes, being "attacked" proves he's onto something.

You know it's POSSIBLE that calling people "stupid" and being mean to them isn't the BEST was to get them to see reason. (which can be done)

Just putting it out there. ;)

So the actual war is between educated and non-educated? I don't know if that is 100% the case. Don't the educated actually develop more factions amongst themselves? And then there are people on whose minds no amount of education can make any dent and they stick to their dogmatic beliefs.

I think there's only so much allowance a person can give to abject stupidity before you just start throwing your hands up at the situation. How many times do you go through 'claim -> counter with citation -> counter counter with opinion -> counter with citation -> fallacy fallacy fallacy -> counter with citation, call them out on their fallacy with citation -> go fuck yourself/I'm being persecuted' before you stop and just skip to the end?

Not quite that bad, public discourse is still necessary, and while certain idiots will never change, you can at least get information across to third parties rather than incinerate them in hellfire.

First the ONLY way to win I was referring to is not to play not to actually nuking anyone!

;)

That doesn't mean you need to allow the "conversation" to degrade to the level of SNL's "Point-Counterpoint" which is something I see all the time and not only here. (I've done it myself)

Prove me wrong.

Too bad that you can't just ship people off to an alternate universe / reality, where they can believe what they want, and not distort the actual reality with their BS.

Then there's no conversation, there's just people stating falsehoods with no counterpoint. Basically, Facebook.

It all depends on whether someone is forcing their views on everyone else or if someone is really honestly and earnestly interested in productive discourse to learn the truth or best course of action etc.

Then there's Russia/China. You don't agree with the people in power, you end up in Siberia/hellish place in China or even dismembered for your organs. Eventually, everyone learns not to disagree and just go yes-yes no matter what.

Yeah but that's not what I'm talking about.... I'm talking more about the way topics are approached and communicated (or not) then I am the quality of the subject-matter.

There are plenty of actual troll's on these forums, both the paid kind and the "I'm just an id10t!!1!" kind but there are also some genuine people with admittedly nutty/nonsense ideas that can however be reasoned with and I will continue to do so. (or at least try!)
