Talked with some of the Japanese advisers at here asking about this bow. They also agree that a bow like that is ONLY done to show you are inferior. They said he should be embarrassed for such a cultural goof. Or he actually believes US is inferior (more likely).

Omg he made a cultural goof, this a sure sign of the downfall of our country. What you don't get is that even if it does convey inferiority it doesn't matter, it's not going to hurt us at all.

Bows will not hurt us, but a stupid President might. Shades of GWB.

If it wasn't for his apology tours, having a history of hating the flag, wright, etc sure you can gloss over it. But with that history this is just another view into how obama views America and what he thinks of it.

JFC and it was the right who was worried about indoctrination?

From the comments in the first link...

It's truly extraordinary, the way neocons relish in hateful ethnocentrism and delusional, psychotic aggression. The neocon reaction to Obama's bow brings to mind an image of a half-wit fratboy jock with flushed-red face in the midst of a roid-rage episode screaming at another fellow who just held the door for his girlfriend. Not a surprising reaction from those folks, but bizarre nonetheless.

So true! :awe:

Sure you did🙄 You're such a liar.

Unfortunately it is.

Here is the reasoning:

When you bow to someone that low you show you are inferior to them. That is the perceived notion that goes on here. Even if the Saudi King or the Japanese person had bowed back, the fact that he bowed low shows to them that their leaders are superior to ours.

But this is most likely true..we do not have good leaders 😛

Yay, another thread where jman19 comes in and doens't address the topic but instead just yaps about the poster. Par for the course.

I already did discuss the topic. Now I'm discussing the thread.

Looks like another person who isn't readnig the whole thread and is making ASSumptions /CAD

I've been to Japan, and I know there is a lot of consideration given to bowing, so I am not sure how this will go over in Japan. However, a quick check of google finds:
"Bowing seems simple, but there are different ways of bowing. It depends on the social status or age of the person you bow to. If the person is higher status or older than you are, you should bow deeper and longer."
I know that older people are revered in Japan, a difficult concept for Americans to grasp,
so Obama bowing to an older person would not be out of line.

I am interested in how the Japanese respond to this.

[All comments translated from Japanese]

“What a bow!”
“Such a deep bow from Obama, what a fine guy.”
“I’m surprised he bowed. He’s really trying hard to meet the Japanese way!”
“President Obama is a top-class person, isn’t he? Amazing!”
“The Emperor is giving a nice smile!”
“Is the Japanese Emperor really that special?”
“The Emperor or the Pope, the President or the Prime Minister, whoever is greater is not something that I think can be decided objectively.”
“I laughed because it was a much better bow than I had imagined.”
“Obama’s huge!”
“Obama has more of a true Japanese heart than most Japanese do.”

Clearly Obama has destroyed America's image of strength, get ready for another attack from Japan.🙂

Edit: Fox News has: "A photograph shows President Obama bent at a nearly 90-degree angle while shaking the hand of Japanese Emperor Akihito. "

Nearly 90 degrees? Are they sure he wasn't trying to kiss his feet?

I'm sorry, but i don't think she could get elected for even a fan club anywhere else, she's not intelligent, not charming (unless you like 19'th century charm from a woman that would have been a slave and actually thinks she should be a slave to her husband) and not anyone that should do anything more than re learn the law of the US.

I pity her, that's the best i can do for her and her kind, she's obviously not a happy woman.
Let me get this straight. You think that a woman who ran for and was elected governor of Alaska, who took on massive corruption within her own party and won, whose husband actually quit a lucrative job to avoid an appearance of a conflict of interest, thinks she should be a slave to her husband?

I hope you are solving mankind's problems with that massive brain, Brainiac.

I can't imagine why anyone in Japan would have a problem with Obama bowing to their emperor, no matter how low. Either they'll think he is a well-meaning but uneducated politician, or they'll think he should have bowed like that because the emperor deserves it. Personally I don't have any problem with it either; either it's a harmless, well-intentioned sign of respect or it's just more of the same. Sure is a big contrast with how he handled the UK queen though.

Its called showing respect.

I don't agree with many of Obama's policies and I disagree with about 99% of whatever classy usually posts, but I agree with him on this.

Respect for the culture and people
Respect for the office
Respect for the person

Only an idiot would believe that a bow like that would mean that the leader of the strongest military and economic power in the world was admitting that someone else was superior. 🙄

And as you can see there more than a few Wingnut idiots in this thread.
