Always been a believer, just never thought about needing it for riding on the hood of SUV. If Wiki can be trusted, lane splitting is legal in Brazil.
My hunch is he was in the right, but kicking the SUV was a bad idea. Physics always wins, and the SUV is bigger. I'd love to know what happened to them afterwards.

No it isn't... California as usual is the exception.

United States

California has no laws explicitly prohibiting lane splitting, and is the only U.S. state for which official statements state that lane splitting, when done safely, is legal.

California is not the only state for which there is no traffic law that explicitly prohibits lane splitting, but officials rely on other laws to regularly interpret lane splitting as unlawful. For example, New Mexico does not address lane splitting by name, but has language requiring turn signals be used continuously for at least 100 ft (30 m) before changing lanes, as well as other codes which may be cited by an officer. Many other states have identical codes, derived from the Uniform Vehicle Code.

Brazil....(as in: watch the video again...and travel a bit)

uh, and CA isn't actually the only exception. Read what you posted, lol.

That video smells fake to me. Camera zooms in on things before they happen like expecting it, pulls into the oncoming traffic lane before things escalate so it has the only clear camera angle to catch something so totally unexpected. Nope, not buying it, camera work too perfect to have been a coincidence. Staged.

LiveLeak

Now I don't know what happened before and why the biker kicked the SUV but I can tell you that if you kicked my car out of the blue, prepare to suffer the consequences. This biker could have been killed yet he would not back off.

From this video alone I think both drivers were WAY out of line and could serve some jail time.

A long time ago when I was in graduate school at UT Austin I was stopped at a light on S. Lamar on my way home. I was the first one at the light and I was on my Ninja ZX-7. A lady pulled up next to me in a BMW 7 series. When the light turned green I took off at a normal pace and before I could even reach any real speed that dumb bitch decided she no longer wanted to be in the right lane and simply changed lanes...right into me. I wasn't going very fast so I stuck out my foot and pushed off her door as I hit the gas to get away from the dumb bitch. I got out of her way, but she had a HUGE dent in the side of her car. She was lucky she didn't come after me. She was 100% at fault.

A lotta fail in that video. It does appear that the woman was being the initial bitch, but the biker should've simply taken off and let her go on with her miserable bitch-life. Kicking her quarter panel like that was asking for trouble.

The bitch was still in the wrong to escalate the situation further by accelerating into him, of course. Her actions were never justified at any point.

I'm with the biker

bitch be crazy

think the woman driver crowded the biker's space. there was plenty of space on the lane space for the woman driver to work with on the right, so I think she was the instigator or just a bad driver.

think the biker should have just went with an angry verbal assault instead of kicking the woman's vehicle but her reaction was by far worse

Look at the beginning of the video. She didn't just "crowd" him. She tried to block him and/or nudge him *before* he did anything else.

I know that this was an incident involving a "motor" bike, but I still subscribe to:

😉

speed limit =/= speed minimum

My bet is that she cut him off, she knew what she did and knew why he was approaching, and this was her way of avoiding the situation.

Should be attempted murder, in my opinion. Assault with a deadly weapon at minimum, if it were the US. However, if it were the US she would simply say she never saw him and walk.

Where are these bikers going that they need to lane split to get there on time?
They need to utilize their time more wisely if they want to get to their AA meetings/child abuse rallies on time.

Bikes don't do well in traffic, nor do bikers.

Lane splitting is safe and I've found no problems with it, IF the populace is intelligent enough to withhold their caveman instincts and not care if a motorcyclist gets there before them.

That's all your post is really about... Your teensy caveman brain isn't capable of sitting in traffic while someone gets there before you. 😉 I suggest trying to grow up a bit, you know, develop.. before sitting behind the wheel of your vehicle.

I would actually contend that lane splitting is safer than sitting between 4000lb in stop and go traffic.

well, both people were stupid and started it.

the woman for cutting the biker off, and the biker for kicking her vehicle.

but after that - the woman definitely goes overboard. and i dont know if you'd be able to use self defense to avoid vehicular mansalughter or attempted murder.

It looked like the guy was caught on her mirror at one point as she was in reverse peeling out.

What would he be charged with if he pulled a gun out and shot her in the head when this was happening?

Looks like the biker was squirting between two legal lanes on the road.

Look at the very first few frames of the video. The SUV was in the proper lane and the bike started up between the two lanes and cars. Bike is totally wrong.

Jesus christ have you ever even left the country? The world is not encompassed completely within the borders of the US. There is ANOTHER continent named S-O-U-T-H A-M-E-R-I-C-A and in that continent is another country named Brazil! 😱

Attitudes about lane splitting like this are completely ignorant, selfish, and just plain retarded. All it boils down to is simple jealousy. You're stuck in traffic, so you want everyone else to be stuck in it, too. People try to justify this idiocy by saying that motorcyclists or bicyclists are "cutting in line". That would only be true if their actions increased traffic or added time to everyone else's commute. Which is doesn't. So you might as well project your attitude onto the people on the sidewalk as well, since it's just as applicable and just as retarded. After all, who do they think they are, passing you in your car. 😡

i think his point is that this took place in brazil, where lane splitting may be legal 😀

Legal or not, bikers that lane split deserve to die one day. Deserve, not that i have things against them. Deserve in that they are idiots.
