Anger Erupts at Republican Town Halls Over Obamacare

Democrats have been daring the GOP to repeal the ACA for as long as it got written into law, and the GOP until now haven't taken them up on it. Now that the Repubs have free rein to do so, I think all of the screaming and yelling over how horrible the Romney inspired ACA is and how they were itching to repeal it will be shown for what it really ever was: stale veggie burgers being sold as red meat for their constituents to sink their thoroughly propagandized teeth into.

Coming up with "a bigly better plan" without pissing off the health care industry profiteers that for all intent and purpose wrote themselves and their interests directly into the Act to keep their portfolios bulging with cash is going to be pretty interesting and possibly quite awkward and embarrassing for Trump and the GOP.

If the Repubs truly were/are interested in providing the nation with affordable health care and they actually do come up with something that is superior to the ACA and get it passed into law, then I'll be the first to congratulate them.

It seems to me though that this situation is a win/win for the Dems. The Repubs using the ACA as a whipping boy to satiate their constituents' contrived hatred for everything Obama is now the crazy monkey on their backs, as they literally called themselves out on destroying what millions of fellow Americans have come to rely on, including millions of needy conservatives who vote Repub without having a "better, more affordable plan" that doesn't reek of heavy handed health care industry influence.

Ergo, the Dems get to look at the Repubs torturing themselves over producing a more comprehensive and affordable plan thus having the Repubs do the Dem's work for them, or have the Repubs make themselves look like the liars they really are by leaving the core ACA components in place thus reneging on their "promise" to "actually" repeal it.

It's definitely a win-win for the dems. The repubs will either pass something better, a win for everyone, or they will pay the consequences politically for creating something worse.

Agreed, but those two possibilities are not equally weighted in probability. It's pretty obvious which one is a more likely outcome.

They ain't going to pass shit that isn't either a complete abdication of their duty (something horribly crippled) or possibly it's going to end up being some rebranded ACA clone.

I know that defeat is never fun .. but where is the Dems now? Why are they not out fighting? Who is the next champion and why is this person silent?

The Rep base ain't abandoning the party no matter what. If the Reps gut the ACA and leave the base to the whims of the insurance industry, the base will blame everybody but themselves and their party. We see that dynamic in this very forum. Trump does something asinine and the Reps blame Clinton for not being a stronger candidate. The idea that the Rep base will ever look out for its self-interest is delusional. As long as there's country music playing and flags waving, the Rep base would line dance straight into the gas chambers where they'd cheer that the nozzles were American made.

Politicians trying to run medicine is like lawyers doing brain surgery. Have faith that the Reps will screw up how thing might be as well, perhaps worse. The Dems can say "I told you so" and we know they will.

GG.

Yep.

Sadly, reading the article it looks like it's just democrats/progressives flooding republican townhalls. While it's nice in general to have people more actively involved in the democratic process, nothing is going to change unless the republican base, the same base that voted these people in will do the same - flood the townhalls and demand answers from people they elected. (R) representatives are not going to care about (D) base that votes against them anyway. Nothing is going to get done until (R) base will rise and hold the (R) officials responsible for improving Obamacare like they promised to.

IMO, Republicans have gotten themselves in this mess. I don't know how they are going get themselves out of it.

Remember what Trump said about Obamacare? He's going to have something that's going to be ahhmazing! Much better than Obamacare.

Republicans are in deep doo doo if they aren't able to deliver on this ahhmazing healthcare that they promised.
Not a problem, the Tea Party folks haven't been attending the Townhall meetings since Trump was elected, but this will give them a good reason to go back. Give it some time.

That's basically just a group of angry democrat whiners showing up at the town hall. Hardly anything to care about.

I do agree that the gop has painted itself into a corner, and my guess is they'll come up with something fairly similar to obummercare, but hopefully with about 1000 pages of garbage stripped out. We'll see.

Exactly. Screw people who are impacted by a decision trying to have a voice. What do they think this is, a democracy?

Hey, they have a right to express their opinion, just like I have a right to disagree with it, ignore it, mock it, whatever. The headline makes it seem like it's republicans complaining. It's not, it's the same tantrum throwing children stomping their feet, just in a different place. They will be (and should be) ignored.

And this demonstrates how truly detached from reality you are. The GOP is backpedaling at a rapid speed on repealing the ACA. You might be on the wrong side of who should be ignored.

Anyone else notice how upset the overweight guy was over the possibility of Obamacare being repealed? "If I don't get my meds I'll die!"

Umm... Try being a bit proactive with your health for once. You have to wonder how many people are actually getting free health coverage. Personally, I know a few out of shape men who make squat, and they purposely do this do they can get their free health coverage. I'm not saying they all do this, but I bet many do.

Link? What is this backpedaling you speak of?

I mean in just a few weeks they went from 'repeal Obamacare root and branch' to 'let's make a repair bill' to 'we might have something in 2018'.

I mean it was entirely obvious to everyone with a brain that this is exactly what would happen. Conservatives have comforted themselves with raging against the ACA for years while not having to actually come up with a health care plan that was equal or better. Now reality is rudely interrupting and they are quickly realizing that whatever they replace the ACA with will either cost more, cover fewer people, or be basically the same thing we have now.

Such is the price they pay for deluding themselves I guess. It's like the dog that caught the car, haha.

So in other words you think they should resort to violence? Because if you ignore people when they're being non violent, then you invite them to move to more extreme tactics.

The "original" battle cry was "Repeal!", Then it went to "Repeal and replace!". Now that they have been given new, and seemingly unwanted, responsibility for the health care issue, it has become "Repair" and even "Rebuild"

A few links for you but fski pretty much covered it. Threw in a couple right wing sites for fun.

They have no idea what to do at this point. For 7 years it was repeal! repeal! repeal! when they knew they didn't have to actually come up with anything. Tables have shifted. Now the ball is in their court and they are lost.
