Android has huge text messaging bugs?

Has anyone experienced this? This sounds horrible and I would be supremely pissed if something like this happened to me. How widespread is this? Google has known about it for 6 months and done nothing?

This happened to me at least 2-3 times when I had an android phone over the summer. I just thought I hadn't been paying attention. I would click on a name and thread (and it would visually respond as if I had chosen that thread), and it would take me to a different thread, and I wouldn't notice until after I sent it. This got me into some trouble one of the times.
 
Never had that. But, sometimes I click on a bookmarked link and it opens a completely different, bookmarked site.

Same here, I thought it was my mistake somehow...
 
I've had this happen on my EVO before. I can actually replicate it pretty easily. I'll pull up past text messages and start clicking threads. Sometimes it will pull up a completely different contact so I always make sure I pay attention before sending a text. Heck at this point I just make sure to always 'play nice' regardless of who I'm texting. It really is ridiculous to think something so basic can still be so f'd.
 
This apparently only affects the stock messaging app, i've been using handcent since day one and never had this issue.

ive never used the stock app, dled chomp when i first got my phone and then moved to handcent

Same here. Never experienced it, but I've never used the stock app only Handcent. Usually, I remove the stock app entirely.
 
So what is the app of choice for non-stock text? I've seen a few mentioned in here... Handcent, Go, Chomp? What are the pros/cons for each?

I like Handcent, though I couldn't say whether it's superior to Chomp. I probably prefer it because I tried it first.
 
I use a modified or older version of the stock messaging app (black background) and haven't run into this problem throughout using various roms.
