Another vote for Go SMS. I was using Handcent and tried Chomp but I've been using Go these past few days and I like the way it handles Popup SMS and also the look and speed of it is a lot better than the others. The developers are pretty good at updating and also listening to the users via the XDA forums, so a bonus point for that.

Glad I found this. I had an issue yesterday on my Vibrant where I was typing a text, when i hit send, the contact info changed to someone else and they both received the text, but further replys would go to the person that was not the original intended contact.

I've been using ChompSMS since I first got my G1 on the recommendation of someone here. I'm still using it on my G2 and never had this problem.

Hmm, I've personally never seen this happen. Never happened on my Nexus One and so far nothing on my Droid X. Sucks for those that have had this happen. :(

Not to troll here, but dont you guys find it fundamentally wrong that you have to download a third party app in order to correct a problem that should work fine on the default version of it?

It should work but when someone would say something like that for the iPhone, you Apple people would always say there's an app for that so no big deal.

Engadget had a post where google responded to this and they confirmed that, although rare, there are two issues that might happen. They mentioned it'll be fixed soon enough.

I use Handcent right now on my Vibrant. I've encountered two problems with texting:

1) Sometimes I'll receive a text, but instead of any message there's just a [content not supported] like message. Each time this has happened the person says they only sent a plain text message. This also doesn't trigger any message alert, so I have stumbled across these messages when I'm browsing through all my texts.

2) I've flat out not received text messages sent to me.

Both are rare occurrences and have happened mostly with one particular person. Not had an issue where I've sent texts to wrong people.

Just bumping this because I was experiencing this with the stock messaging app on my HTC TB. After about the 10th time I went to GoSMS and haven't looked back.

Pretty ridiculous the base messaging app can't work out of the box.

Funny, that's never happened to me or my wife, but her phone is incapable of actually deleting threads. She tried to this past weekend and instead of removing the threads from the master list, it just deleted all the messages in those threads and set the dates on them to December 1969. So they're at the bottom of her list, but they're still on the list.

Probably an issue with the database since she has thousands of saved messages and I only have hundreds. I was able to delete a thread without any problems. Also, the same bug affects both Handcent and the stock messaging app on her Evo.

I've had this happen on my Thunderbolt. I've never had this happen on any other Android phone I've had.

Never had this issue. However i have had all of my text messages erased for no apparent reason 3 times in 6 months of owning my HTC EVO.

Original Droid, never had this issue in the last 2ish years. For the first year, I only used the stock app, now I'm using Handcent.

I thought this issue was fixed in recent android releases?

It was fixed in 2.3.2 thought technically it could be fixed without a kernel upgrade as I believe it was the messaging app that was the problem and as such just the app could be replaced.

That sucks.

Another texting bug that's quite common is that your sms history is out of order. I believe the problem stems from the phone timestamping every single text message and when a text is recieved/sent at the same time, it gets all effed up.

The way the iPhone gets around this is that it doesn't timestamp every text message. You don't get as many timestamps, but then again your text message doesn't get all jumbled up. Its a give n take I guess.

why can't you timestamp properly in Android? On any platform this sounds fine on paper.

My texts are all in order... except the ones I imported from Symbian S60 onto my Android phone.
