Anyhow, one person out of many billion of people is a pretty small statistical number. Therefore since those odds are so small it very well could be possibly that this guy has a genetic mutation in which he does not require sleep.
Do you all think there is no way at all that there is 1:10,000,000,000 chance that somebody may 'evolve' where they do not need sleep?

Hell this very well could be a real human example of evolution at work.

Or it could be fake.

I doubt it, if it was really evolution chances are he would have never needed sleep even as a kid

Not necessarily.

There are some people that can get away with less than 2.5 hours a night and work perfectly well. They can't sleep any longer than that.

That's not necessarily true, and there is little psychological evidence to support a link between lack of sleep and insanity...

Shens^2.

Without sleep your organs would be working constantly without rest. Long periods of sleep deprivation caused liver/kidney damage in a few of my close relatives. I doubt this guy lived after no sleep for 20 yrs.

Shens. You need sleep to retain your sanity. (You CAN live without it but you will really go nuts).

A girl at a summer camp I was at actually became a kleptomaniac (sp?) from going the entire 8 weeks w/o sleep. (People observed her in shifts to make sure she actually went through with the challenge).

2.5 hours does not equal no sleep. I do 2.5 hours all the time. I can't go more than a couple days with no sleep, though.

Not necessarily. In fact it makes perfect sense that such a person would require a normal amount of sleep as a child and through adolescence. The way your organs secrete organs changes as you age. Certain glands secrete more or less at different times of your life. Therefore it is reasonable to conclude that perhaps at a certain age when the endocrine system naturally changes, that there was some other mutation and the combination of the two - change in hormone levels coupled with a mutation - caused a person to not require sleep like a 'normal' person.

Hell I have a B.S. in Biology and I think it is possible that out of billions and billions of people that one person may be a statistical anamoly and able to function without sleep.

That being said, it is hard to take it seriously when it is not found on any other news site.

I think your suggestion of some type of biological anomaly is very plausible. I also agree that this could be entirely made up as any news from the Ukraine is rather hard to confirm and often suspect in that region of the world.

well If this is true I hope someone figures out why and they are able to make a drug that replaces sleep...that would be awsome

Hello, according to the South especially in Georgia they swear there is no such thing as Evolution.

They even put that in the School books.

I call bullsh!t!

I'm thinking that you would die within less than a month on no sleep. Too many functions insofar as mental and physical reparations must take place while sleeping. I think that I heard that you would start hallucinating within the early part of the second week.

wtf this isnt p&n.

i call bs on the no sleep without a credible source other than "doctors". what dr? whats his name? what hospital?
edit: doh, over looked the last sentence. "Local doctor Fyodor Koshel". has this been confirmed by other dr.s? seems like they would be lining up for a study.
