Maybe that explains why Gen Y is so unhappy?

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2342960

The kids were raised getting rewards, went out into the real world, did not rewards, became unhappy, moved back in with mom and dad.

Orrrrrr because the cost of college has risen so much in the past decade, that it's almost impossible for many people in their 20's to live on their own.

My g/f is a g'damn doctor and will probably have to live at home. So don't go crying about how we kids are lazy, or getting useless degrees. There's always useless idiots in the world. But now a days, the cost of living is much higher than it was back in your time growing up.

I was just fortunate enough to get a fairly high paying job for my age and <$30k in student debt. My g/f will have well over $100k.

So much anger. And this boys and girls is what solitary confinement does to children. Just whip their ass and get it over with.

Serious side, I would not want to be 18 - 30 years old and looking for a job. the cost of living, cost of food, low wages, cost of college,,, the deck is stacked against the younger generation.

But, I also know young men who make a good living working on land based drilling rigs. They go out to the rig, work a few weeks, go home, go back out,,,, they make the scarifies to earn a good living.

We all got spanked in school or at home if we crossed the line. Everyone turned out fine.

Do you live with mom and dad?

Do you have a job?

Do you support yourself?

Does it bother you that until the big recession a smaller proportion of kids today were living with your parents than under your generation?

Maybe you should ask them for tips.

Were you spanked as a child?

Do you live at home?

Anyone who does those things is not an asshole?

I am making a point.

Have you heard the saying if you make your home too comfortable guest will not want to leave?

Maybe the same goes for kids. If things are cushy at home, they will not want to leave.

No I was not spanked.

I live at home but it's the home that I purchased for myself, not my mom's home.

Stop avoiding the question: are you bothered by the fact that today's kids were living at home at a lower rate than your generation was? Are you planning on asking them for tips?

You aren't making a point, you are babbling. If there is one person in this world who was spanked and did those things then you are right? No. If there is one person in the world who was not spanked and still lives at home with no job, you are right? No. So why ask about my situation?

No, I am not planning on asking them for tips.

I have lived on my own since I was 19 years old.

You hit the nail on the head about the deck being stacked against young people, but then you turn around and tell them "I don't care if you are being cheated, LOSER." It's logically inconsistent unless you are incapable of empathy (which is certainly a possibility given your posting history). But we've had an unemployment problem in this country since the recession in 2008 and it's disproportionately affected young people as older, more experienced workers have taken pay cuts to stay employed in jobs that historically have gone to the youth. Proposing that they take jobs that are no longer available isn't a viable solution. "In my day, young people went to the oil rigs!" Great. This isn't your day, this is now, and those jobs aren't going to young people when more experienced workers will take those jobs at low wages since it's better than being homeless (never mind that the vast majority of young people in this country don't live in close proximity to oil drilling operations; you might as well propose that people in Kansas go fish salmon since it seems to work so well for people in the Pacific Northwest).

Here's a chart demonstrating how the employment losses during the recession have disproportionately affected younger people. And these are people that are actively seeking employment, not just living with parents because of laziness.
