It's not so bad. It literally does help you catch up with people/reconnect. I found my best friend from Kindergarten who moved away way back when and we caught each other up.
I really have absolutely no desire to "catch up" with any of the assholes from my school days, save maybe my best friend from growing up. And if I really wanted to try there I would call his parents and get his phone number. I've determined that pretty much all of my "friends" from school were total fuckwads and aren't worth the effort to find again. In fact, I'd prefer that those individuals have absolutely no way to contact me ever again.
That is really a sad place to be. This seems to be the more fault of your own life and not that of Facebook - or any social media.
Who's to say he hasn't met better people now?
I have a similar disposition as he does - I have no need to "catch up" with the Cool Kids from high school. I have adult friends now, they're better than the high school jackasses, thus I have no need to rehash my past.
Life does, or did, I guess, go forward, not in circles.
Well since you two are in the same crowd I can understand your sympathizing with him. You guys need to go to counseling.
