12. Metallica. From Patrick Dickens: "Although I don't like where heavy metal is today, Metallica essentially created an entire sub-genre of rock 'n' roll. Even if some won't give them credit for creating heavy metal, there is no doubt that they defined it and carried everybody else along on their backs."
someone find this pat dick guy and send him a history of rock'n'roll book and a black sabbath cd

The list is wrong.. Metallica should be on top all the way.. easy. I'm not even a big Metallica fan.. but #1 is their rightful place.
DMB?? Bwuahahahaha. They aren't even Rock.Originally posted by: tami
pearl jam is a great pick. so is DMB (which definitely deserves to be on that list!)
REM too.
i'd suppose nirvana's low rankings stem from kurt cobain's suicide and the bad role model he seemed to be as a result. people still are huge nirvana fans, no doubt, but nirvana isn't producing any new music for obvious reasons.
Yep, they are easily the greatest American rock band. I can see a legitimate argument for Aerosmith, but nobody else.Originally posted by: BrokenVisage
VH should be moved up 2 spots, but #3 isn't bad.

How can PJ be considered even in the Top Ten? Is this bands that are still intact because there are literally dozens of bands from the past that dwarf PJ.

Looks more like a pop list to me.
Pearl Jam hasta be one of my LEAST favorite bands of all time, and I like everything from Bach to Nirvana to Jay-Z. I cannot, in any way, see how they are #1.

Your just pissed because Meatloaf didn't win.
You have no musical taste and are caught up in nostalgia of your past. No American band has so perfectly woven powerful lyrics, mood, and melody as well as Pearl Jam. Listen to "Black" or "Better Man". WTF from your childhood in the 60's is better than that?
And you are caught up in the novelty of the recent...Originally posted by: HeroOfPellinorYou have no musical taste and are caught up in nostalgia of your past.

All I know is all of their songs sound the same...I think they just had one generic song and the singer just made different droaning sounds each time time.
