If we included rock bands of all time (not just american), Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin would be tied for number 1!!! :)

I dont think so. They do NOT deserve No. 1. According to me, they are good around 5-10. Replace Queensryche. WTF are they doing at 8!!

GNR are hard rock gods. No doubt about it. They could have gone into top 5 too.

REM too.

i'd suppose nirvana's low rankings stem from kurt cobain's suicide and the bad role model he seemed to be as a result. people still are huge nirvana fans, no doubt, but nirvana isn't producing any new music for obvious reasons.
DMB?? Bwuahahahaha. They aren't even Rock.

Yep, they are easily the greatest American rock band. I can see a legitimate argument for Aerosmith, but nobody else.
Certainly not Pearl Jam.

They seem to have forgotten when 2 people tie, the next people lost a spot.
1st
2nd
3rd tied
5th
6th tied
8th
etc etc.

Without the Brits and their groups, this list is somewhat decent. I just can't believe the greatest rock band ever is Pearl Jam. They are good, but I would expect one of the more classic bands to be selected rather than one from the 90s era. I guess the list is merely a list and the rank orders are definitely going to be tilted by the people who were surveyed....the people who used to really rock are old and listening to slower stuff these days. They won't vote the way they would at one time....

How can PJ be considered even in the Top Ten? Is this bands that are still intact because there are literally dozens of bands from the past that dwarf PJ.

Pearl Jam is a highly influential band. I am fine with them among top 5.

This list doesn't even come close to representing American Rock. It is a truly sad list.

There are so many quality american bands. While I think the pioneers and most influencial bands came from Britain(Led/Sabbath), American took their lead and ran with some great rock songs.

Any list even talking about Pearl Jam as rock and being in the top 100 is totally bogus. A band Clutch just put out an album that is 1000x better than any of the crap PJ has ever put out. Will it be more popular than any PJ album? No, but we are talking about the best rock n roll here. It doesn't say anything about most popular.

Screw this list and screw PJ

Pearl Jam hasta be one of my LEAST favorite bands of all time, and I like everything from Bach to Nirvana to Jay-Z. I cannot, in any way, see how they are #1.

Kiss, Van Halen and Metallica are pop?

Your just pissed because Meatloaf didn't win.

You have no musical taste and are caught up in nostalgia of your past. No American band has so perfectly woven powerful lyrics, mood, and melody as well as Pearl Jam. Listen to "Black" or "Better Man". WTF from your childhood in the 60's is better than that?

And not to forget....Eddie Vedder is a freaking genius!!! Dont even compare him to Kirk Hammet.
Slash is better though.

Novelty? No. But I'm willing to face the fact that things can get better over time as people learn how to do them better and better. You aren't driving a Model T are you? You aren't using an AppleII to post on this forum are you? Man can now run the 100m in under 10 seconds.

RD mentioned "bands from the past".....but what he meant was "bands from MY past" which was the nature of me comment. But it's cute you felt the need to defend him. I'm sure he was touched.

YOU SUCK

No, he just never got in <Homer voice>CRAP ROCK</Homer voice>

All I know is all of their songs sound the same...I think they just had one generic song and the singer just made different droaning sounds each time time.

Those of you bashing the award having gone to PearlJam have obviously never seen them in concert. Now THAT is a rock concert. Good music or no, some people are more influenced by the performance than the actual music content.

No biggie, though. They're good. Not my personal favorite, but good. I would have voted someone else.
