Doesn't windows move some application processes over to the second processor if the first one is really busy?
The way they talked, it's just application support that does it.

Some apps can separate their own processes and use the processors independantly, otherwise, the OS assigns an app (process) to a specific processor and balances the load.

How about me? I know my voice was quivering, but did it get picked up on the phone?

Hehehehhee, just kidding. :D

I didn't write it out. I just asked him....the lady who answered was like, "CNet Radio" and then silence. I was like, "um...I want to talk to Anand...on the radio...uh...yeah.." and she's like, "Name? City? What do you want to ask?"

In a multithreaded version of Windows (e.g. NT, 2000, XP Pro) Windows will assign threads to each processor, however unless you are running two very CPU intensive threads you won't really get any benefit from running dual CPUs. Applications that are specifically written for it generally offer the best performance boost from going to dual CPUs.

Other than Quake III Arena, most games aren't multithreaded. There's not much thread level parallelism to be extracted from games it seems and there's also very little demand for games that support multiple processors so you won't see any benefits there either.

Thanks again to Rallispec, Beau6183, LordMaul and everyone else for tuning in and offering their support.

Take care and have a great weekend,
Anand

Shhhh...I had to ask SOMETHING, right?!

Besides...I really might go dual, or at least would have, had I the $$$...

I didn't want to sound like the ultra computer God that I am and make them all feel inadequate, right?!

:D
