What !!! you think you are insulting me or something? I dont give 2 $hits what you use it doesn't benefit nor harm me, it's a matter of personal choice and I respect that. That is why I have this thread in the off topic because I don't have any intentions of going technical nor transforming this thread into another " Why you should convert to Linux/ Linux vs Windows Article" to the already existing quadrillion articles and blogs out there.

haha insulting you? Start drinking decaf, kid.
You're the one freaking out about bill gates and whatver other bs you think someone is stealing from open source. I use unix about 95% of all time i spent using computers and Linux is about as unproductive as a desktop can get.

I'm willing to bet you're a teenbopper kid that loaded up mandrake on your pc and now you think you're "1337" because you go around blabbering how linux is great and how bill gates is the antichrist. Grow the fvck up

Chris Jones is fckin lying

Chris Jones : You will not get spyware and malware on your computer anymore.

Interviewer : Why not?

Chris Jones : Because we have great Anti-Malware/Spyware support built into the system!!!

The Linuxator : ; turns off BS alarm; -------------> at this instant the need for a rant on AT was absolute.

its the same BS over and over , at least I will not pay a cent if I did't like what I am getting from Linux.

Will you please shut up. As a linux user myself...you are a moron. Nothing is more secure than anything else unless you unplug it from the internet and reduce the userbase to 1 person. If linux where as popular as windows, everyone would b!tch about how crappy the security is on linux. Look at the IE, Firefox battle. Everyone complained about IE and said how great and secure Firefox is. Before Firefox was popular there where almost NO security updates. Now that it's semi-popular, geeeee lots and lots of security releases. Yes, Firefox is still better, but they still don't have much market share compared to IE. The same thing will happen linux if the day ever comes when it is more popular.

And as you claim, if MS is stealing from Apple, then they will get sued. If their are similarities, big f'in deal. I want you to write a program and come up with completely original ideas every time.

NO YOU STFU, I just had enough $hit form devolopers promising BS to the average user, and hey if Linux becomes as popular as windows, it's not the same BS , windows is weak by archecticture not by being exposed to popularity, they started realsing that everytime they get some hot competetion from opensource, and thats why they started preventing the users from becoming Admin of the local system just like that an example of hot piping competetion would be firefox, and yes in programming you can come up with ideas and thats why patents still exist its because there are still people out there that are not cloners, so what would you say about firefox, IE 7 was a failed clone, they didnt even bother coming up with ideas for years.
They just sat down waited for the mozilla guys to finish up the work, and just copied down.
So a bunch of developers with a public support make firefox the ultimate webbrowser yet, but MICRO$OFT the biggest software corporation in the world didn't even move a finger untill they felt that FF might be be burning them aive.
That my friend is called fighting the greedy a$$holes you watch raping ppls privacy, by spying on them,, and the right to get your money's worth out of software, not get kicked around by instabilities, and having to patch my OS like tire that fell over a box of nails.

Please, learn something about security before stating any statments regarding security. EVERYTHING is weak by architecture. Linux has plenty of weak architecture elements to it. For example you need to use OpenBSD (solaris as well) in order to have a system with a non-executable stack (if you even know what that is). Having an executable stack is one monster architecture flaw. Also the numerous security issues with syscalls. Oh yes, and how long has it taken to get threading in linux? Would you like me to go on? Yes, I prefer linux over windows, but it's not perfect.

Nothing is perfect ,ansd yes you look like you knoe more than me when it comes to Linux, well let me tell you I haven't been using Linux all that long at all , but it just feels good to know that you are independent of the biggest monopoly in the world.

Just wait till you upgrade gcc for the first time and spend hours trying to fix up all the LD paths so you can actually compile stuff. Or when you get a digital camera and realize you need to compile SCSI support into your kernel to make it even show up in /dev/ Or re-installing your printer because CUPS trashes your settings every 2 months...

But most of all, stop talking out of your ass because you know absolutely nothing about the topic...

And for the record, IRIX is hella better experience on desktop than any flavor of Linux you can get. SGI did an amazing job with their fork of X11

But they are sure safer because it doesn't take a year for each issue too get fixed up and thats if it gets fixed.

I totally agree with you that they patched all those fixes VERY fast. I think that's great. It would be nice if all software was patched that fast. Unfortunately I think that it's harder to release a patch in a real corporation. Just because someone knows a security flaw doesn't mean they are allowed to just fix and release a patch. It must get approved by management, etc... As firefox gets a larger user base it will be interesting to see how fast patches will come out. In open source it's great, I find a security flaw...I can fix and release without asking someone.

Wow - a good old fashioned OS flamewar! Can I play?

Meh - whatever. I got over my OS evangalism years ago. I don't give a rat's ass what you use, or what MS is doing (so long as hardware & standards don't exclude competition).
Thankfully I work in an environment that allows me to use what is most effective for me and the work I'm doing.

let me guess you're 13 year old kid with braces wearing a black xl sized t shirt... what the hell is linux root functionality?

Linux isn't anything other than a free version of what commerical unix has been since 1970....

And which Microsoft had a version of...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xenix

Xenix was Microsoft's version of UNIX intended for use on microprocessors, but they called it Xenix because it could not license the "UNIX" name.

Microsoft purchased a license for UNIX 7th Edition from AT&T in 1979, and announced on August 25, 1980 that it would make it available for the 16-bit microcomputer market.

Damn, I must be old... I remember this cr@p... And yes Xenix was cr@p...

linux is a great idea...it is better left on paper.

it sucks when you actually try and make something work in it. linux cant even get normal hardware to work, my linksys wmp54g wifi card is working like a champ in linux. *shrug* better yet install something and lets see, i bet this app needs 45,000 dependencies. you are hilarious linuxator, and you get off starting up on windows??? my windows stuff works just fine....dont get me started on linux...

So? are you adding something new here? I never said linux is perfect , hell a while ago when I frst started to use Linux, I had to go through the horrors of trying to install a wifi card on a linux distro, I satrted bashing linux users everywhere even on this forum. But then I understood why it can't work, it's because of the manafacturers of the cards not giving the linux community any info about the chipsets they are using so linux developers have to try all methods possible such as Ndiswrapper and sometimes it works and most of the time it doesn't, ppl working on getting these mysterious cards to work, and devoting themselves for that cause without getting any real reward deserve recognition don't you think? Its a different story from windows they supply windows users with drivers and apps to get everything working just like that. but at least Intel laptop wifi cards are nativelty supported by kernel 2.6+ so thats good news. such as the case for my IBM R50e express laptop.

PS : But always keep in mind did you pay those programers 1 cent, no, so it's not a fair comparison with windows, you pay $ 100 + for windows , well it better work allright !!!

When you're running a hyperthreaded dual core P4 at 3.6GHz and a GPU that's almost as fast, I don't think it's really gonna friggin matter.
Well, its nice if your/my gaming rig can handle it pretty good, but what about the rest of the users that don't have a gaming rig from outer sapce.
With 1/3 the power (but no IGP) of a decent gaming rig, you've got enough for a hardware accelerated desktop.

Just as OS X, and even XP, RAM has more to do with it than anything else.
