So don't you consider just purchasing the IEEE 1394 cable from us? In my opinion, that will be the easiest way to get it work

No offense taken, I'm just providing what information that I have. So, how does one buy this cable from Soltek? Does Soltek have a state side representative?

Again, thanks for all the help. Your customer service to this forum in general has made the reputation of Soltek as being a customer friendly company very solid.

Thanks, JimBoZo.
Are you living in US now? If so, you can contact NewEgg com to check if they carry this cable. If not, you can email our sales representative in Taiwan at jessica@soltek.com.tw to purchase it.

Thanks and regards,

Lydia: Thanks so much for your support in this thread. It has been great. I have upgraded to the 1.3 BIOS and it is running well. I haven't been able to get any higher in my overclocks yet, but there are some other things I could try first.

LydiAtSolteck,
I wasnot able to test last nigh, I am hoping to test tonight Dec 15. Just for the record here, I do not believe this is MB problem at all, more of a possible memory problem. The 2 boards I have running have been rock stable and fast. I do not OC them as their fast enough :)

kabob983 - its possible I guess as. What I suggest in building the new system.
1. install heatsink on CPU then install on MB
2. mount MB in case
3. install vid card, HD, CDrom, memory
4. hook up power, dont forget the little 12v extra plug :)
5. Boot system, immediatly go into Bios and check settings - set to boot from CD - make sure Bios is reading CPU correctly hopefully its not a bad cpu.
6. reboot into Win CD and proceed.

Hope your new board helps. It took me about 30min to things intiall installed and working using my 2nd Soltek board.

Lydia,

I have some interesting news regarding the failure of many system utilities to detect the chipset properly on my SL-K8AN2E-GR motherboard. I found and installed a beta version of EVEREST Home Edition, build number 220. This beta build of EVEREST is able to detect the chipset as NF30250Gb, it even recognizes the Soltek name as well as the exact model of the motherboard. No other utility that I have does this.

Apparently all the other utilities lack certain hooks required by the software to get this info properly from the BIOS and chipset. It appears that the problem lies not with the Soltek BIOS but with the utilities themselves. I'm very surprised that the nVidia System Utility is unable to see the chipset correctly, I mean it is made by nVidia themselves.

I'll post a screenshot of this later today, I'm at work on a crappy P4 system not my beautiful A64 rig.

Lydi,

I noticed the Soltek K8TPro-754 is based on the K8T800 non-Pro chipset, which doesn't support async PCI/AGP lock, but the manual for that board lists an option to enable it. Does this board also have a working PCI/AGP lock?

BF04,

How am I supposed to install the HS on the CPU before I put it on the mobo, as it just clamps onto the mobo?? My CD-RW, DVD-ROM, and HDD are all already installed in my case, all I'm doing is just connecting them to the motherboard.

Usually the order I go in is:
-mount mobo to case
-install CPU into mobo
-apply thermal paste onto CPU
-mount HSF onto mobo
-install RAM
-install vid card/sound card
-connect all power connectors
-connect all IDE cables

and...nothing works, but that's only happened once, so hopefully on board #2 all will work fine.

Any chance that these problems could arise from a bad processor??

And oh...I did actually miss the 12v plug once, but caught that mistake pretty fast and plugged it in :p

You are correct, I was doing 3 things at once when I was typing, what I meant is that I install the cpu/heatsink on the MB first, then I install MB in case as some cases are really cramped and hard to install heatsink if you cannot see what your doing :)

Ive not had a dead processor before, however I know odd things that happen can point to an odd place :)

I would try and keep it to a min of what you need to get it up and running, ie only 1 stick mem, 1 hd, 1 cd, vid card and see if it works. If it doesnot post at all, I would start to think its the processor, I would be surprised if 2 boards are total failures. I am hesitant about buying certain items direct from people and processos are one, but thats just me. Hope your new board works, Ill be watching forum :)

You'll have to watch the forum for a while. I won't be able to throw the new board in to my case till after the new year (going home for xmas on Friday :p)

Lydia,

Thank you so much for getting back to me. As of the time of this writing, the soltek.com.tw site is running, but the .de is much faster where I live! So thank you again!

My bug was not fixed, but my bug was my problem (faulty UDMA-66 cable for a CD-Burner). I replaced the cable and she's solid as a rock right now! Gaming never looked/acted so well, in two OS's.

Thanks for hanging out here and helping all of us. You should get a raise.

Good "evening" All,

Megatomic,
Thank you very much for the precious feedback. I am looking forward to seeing the screenshot:)

ChineseDemocracyGNR,
According to our R&D engineer, there are 2 versions (A & B) of K8T800 chip. Version A does NOT support "async PCI/AGP lock" but Version B does. Since SL-K8TPro-754 is based on Version B of K8T800, it surely supports this feature.

WorLord,
I am glad to know you found the bug. Enjoy the mainboard:)

Thanks and regards,

It's the latest that I've come across but you can't find a download link anywhere at the Lavalys website. I stumbled across it when I was reading an article at another website the other day.

Thanks so much, Megatomic.
Now I wonder if the other utilities will work on our mainboard after revising:)

Lydia:

I checked with New Egg, they don't have it.

I e-mailed to Jessica: ?I have a SL-K8Pro-939 motherboard and would like to get the optional IEEE 1394a cable that is mentioned on page 34 of the user's manual.?

And she e-mailed back to me this response:? Thanks for your mail.
Sorry ~ our SL-K8TPro-939 motherboard doesn't go with the IEEE 1394a cable.?

If I could just get verification of what the proper A+-B+- wire colors to the motherboard IEEE 1394 plug in socket is supposed to be, then I think I?ll be able to finish up this part of the project. I know what the designators are for the MB header, as they are in the users manual, but not what the wire colors are supposed to be (other than pin-1 is red). I?m beginning to think that Bytecc may have mislabeled their pc board. Sorry to be such a pain.

Thanks again.

Hi JimBoZo,
I am so sorry that I didn't know we don't sell this cable.
Is it possible to check the pin out with Bytecc?

Thanks and regards,

Im getting rather frustrated that the manual doesn't say what rt1 and cpu die is... I've bought a new cooler (now I have 2x cobber coolers expensive and they should cool this baby to 33 degrees c)

I still get the reading ~50 degrees C in bios at startup and idle, and in load it is above 60 - its the same in win with std hwmonitor from CD.

It's a winchester 90nm 3500+, arctic silver5, zalman 7700-cu or northq 3312 I use at std voltage settings... can you please tell me - is this mobo showing me the wrong temperatures or could you explain thease numbers to me.

cpu die 50-65
system/rt1 (I guess its the same) 23-33

the temp people usually talk about I really don't hope that it's the die temp - if it's so I have to buy a sensor for reading the temps to make sure before I dump this mobi in the ocean or the cpu goes to see.

Sykofanten:
Make sure that the cpu cooler is situated correctly on the cpu. Also, make sure you use a correct amount of thermal paste.

Im hardly a newbie at mounting cpu/cooler or using thermal paste...

Only thing I dont know is what to believe - the temperature in the cabinet or the readings on the motherboard. My cpu don't feel so hot, but then again I can never know if I don't ask if it's a thing more people have notised with the k8tpro...

Anyway I'd like an explanation of how the k8tpro monitors temp and if it's a different reading from other motherboards... internal is it always ? or is it in most cases external temp you see? a simple question... I want to know if it is the motherboard which sux or if its the cpu without having to pay the technician if I return the cpu and it is the mobo which is defect...

It's only fair of me to ask and get an answer since the mobo is very much filled with unacceptable errors... I was lucky to get a startup screen in the beginning and it was a nightmare undtil I got so far as to be able to update the bios... if there are more errors in the mobo it has to come out.

im planning on getting this board and then oc-ing it to around 250fsb. the other things im gonna have are 3000+ winchester, PDP SYSTEMS 512MBx2 DDR PC-3200, SAMSUNG 16X DVD Drive, NEC ND-3500A, ZALMAN CNPS7000B, 6600GT, seagate 120gb 7200rpm hd, Hauppauge Win TV150. i wanted to ask a few questions. is the memory okay to get this board to 250fsb? is the 350w PS with the antec SLK3700AMB or the 380w PS with the antec sonata okay for me to run this system stable? or is it better to get the superlanboy with the enermax 420w noistaker? its much cheaper getting a case that comes with a power supply and id prefer that if i could get away with it. thanks for your input.
