Hi All,
This is Lydia at FAE Division of Soltek Computer Inc..
Regarding the Review of Soltek SL-K8TPro-939 posted by Mr. Wesley Fink on 28th October as below:
http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2257
We would like to clarify some missing points:
1) As many people know, 4 DIMMs of DDR400/double-sided will run at DDR333 according to "RAM Configuration for Soceket 939" released by AMD. So it's a recommended specification set by AMD. However, we will take Mr. Fink's suggestion into account when revising the BIOS in the future.
2) We were a bit of surprised when learning that Mr. Fink checked the "PCI/AGP frequency lock" only by the performance of enabling this feature and disabling it. Actually after reading his rewiew, we used oscilloscope to check the "PCI/AGP clock" and confirmed that the "PCI/AGP frequency lock" of SL-K8TPro-939 does work when overclocking. Therefore we would like to emphasize that it must be a misunderstanding that the "PCI/AGP frequency lock" doesn't work on the SL-K8TPro-939. If anyone has any questions about SL-K8TPro-939, please don't hesitate to contact us at support@soltek.com.tw.

Thanks and regards,

Lydia, that is why I love Soltek so much, the customer service and support are great.

I am on my 4th Soltek mainboard, and it won't be my last

Oh yeah, when are you guys gonna start bundeling case badges? I want one, and I actually emailed in a year or 2 ago about that too! :p

If the agp/pci lock are functioning, why is it that it can't be pushed any further? I swear I was absolutely loving this mobo until I saw it could only go so far before it wouldn't post. If soltek could get it functioning up to 300fsb, you'd have at least 1 more customer, as I have vowed never to use MSI again.

edit: And I think it's totally badass that you actually look at feedback from us and communicate to us. I've never seen any other mobo manufacturer do that before. I'll have to look at more soltek boards from now on.

Never let a single or even 2 or 3 site reviews dissuade you from buying a product. Look at user feedbac and results as these will be more reflective of what you can expect from an off the shelf product ;) Reviews are great for a basic overview of features and performance but sometimes they get preproduction/reference boards, boards that are hand picked and fussed over before submission, ect. So user feedback is more indicative of what to expect thanks to so many different hardware configs, temp ranges, ad infinitum.

Lydia -

1) I realize the AMD specification is to drop to 333 with 4 dimms. However, competing boards WILL riun at DDR400 at 2T with 4 double-sided dimms.

2) I have heard all the arguments about the oscilloscope proving the lock works before. Both Abit and Asus were convinced the AGP/PCI lock was working on their first VIA K8T800 PRO boards, but in fact they would not overclock past about 220-222. When they DID get the lock working both boards would overclock to about 265 to 270.

I really like Soltek boards, and I do think your customer support is great. I commented your board was very fast at stock speed, and if these 2 items were fixed it would be a great Socket 939 choice.

Hi All,
Thank you very much for the precious feedback.
Actually we are now testing the overclocking capablity of the SL-K8TPro-939.
If there is any further progress, we will let you know.

Thanks & regards,

I know this is kind of a long shot, but I think it would be absolutely wonderful if you could keep on updating us on new features and listening to our feedback on a large scale. I couldn't think of anything better than constantly talking to and receiving feedback from a mobo manufacturer, as it could result in some extremely quality products and be good for both you and us. I really don't know why I don't see manufacturers talking to us more often, as it really just seems to make sense. If Lydia could keep coming back and report all of our suggestions and get our feedback, I think we could see some truly great products as a result.

I think this is a message from the almighty or something, because at this very moment I'm torn between buying the Soltek SL-K8TPro-939 and the Asus A8V-Deluxe. I'd honestly love to buy the Soltek, but the overclockability has been worrying me. Seeing this resolved though would put my mind at ease :)

Also, there aren't any reports of problems using just 2 DIMM's of double sided memory, are there?

Hope they fix some of the problems with new BIOS updates, as I'm looking forward to purchasing my new setup.

Good Luck, and thanks Soltek for talking to the consumers! (unlike every other motherboard manufacturer...)

Wes or Lydia:

On Soltek's website, under Soltek SL-K8TPro-939 awards, it lists Anandtech website. It also says "Highly Recommended" by Anandtech. Have you changed your inital review for the new bios? I don't really understand their assertions?

I am from China, and I find that Soltek has not so good reputation in mainland like here.
But I am glad to see the quick response of the company.
I am writing a guide for consumer for 939 mainboard and have read all the reviews in anandtech.
When I found the issues about the SL-K8TPro-939,I had no idea how to make my remark.
As a matter of fact,I did see another review saying that this board can reach 250MHz.
I personally think the board is good and the price in China is reasonable as Soltek always do.SO I am waiting for the test result from Soltek.

Thanks and regards,

That's the site where I said I saw 250MHz HT,but I noticed that there is one line at the bottom:"We'd like to thank Sophia and Lydia from Soltek for quickly addressing issues that arose and for making this review possible."
I have thought that you changed something in BIOS,hehe.
So,which one can I believe?

Hi Isaacyang,
Actually we didn't change "any" items in the BIOS for this review:)
When Mr. Dean Nottis overclocked the system up to 250MHz FSB, he kindly checked with us if there was anything he can try to make it higher. After giving him some suggestions, we found that 250MHz may be the top speed for this review. And that's why we are testing now to see if we can make the SL-K8TPro-939 to run faster than 250MHz:)

Thanks & regards,

Then how to explain the review result here?
You tell the comsumer that if you are lucky enough, you can get one up to 250?
But until now, everyone who want to have a 90nm a64 want to overclock it.

I think if you give us some evidence to show that the PCI/AGP has actually been locked, that will be fine.

Hi Isaacyang,
Thanks for your comments.
I would like to show everbody here some pictures that we took during previous tests which confirmed that PCI/AGP has actually been locked. However, I have no idea how to post them on the forum. If you would like to take a look at them, please email me at lydia@soltek.com.tw. I will send them to you.

Thanks and regards,

Lydia,

Is there any plans for Soltek to release an NForce 4 chipset board? If so, when is this going to be available?

I had heard that only MSI and Asus were going to be releasing NF4 boards this year, so I thought I'd check in.

Anyone is free to inform me :)

Thanks!
