Hi Lydia I have another question for you. As far as the overclocking utility that came with the board, even with the 2.0 beta the software does not recognize the chipset. When is there going to be a fox for that?

Also I cant get my OCing to go over 225 without my video card freaking out. Am I missing a setting on the bios?

Hi Elocal,
Could you please reinstall the graphics card driver and change to 24bit depth to see if that helps?

Thanks and regards,

Hi Docbrown3805,
If you mean the "RedStorm 2" overclocking utility, I am sorry to inform you that it is not supported by the SL-K8TPro-939. Unfortunetely, we have no plan to get it work on this mainboard for the time being.

Regaring the OC, did you under clock the CPU multiplier and raise the FSB to achieve it?

Thanks and regards,

Lydia:

I haven?t purchased a 1394 cable from Soltek. I didn?t know that you could, I thought that one had to go through a state side supplier. I did just try to get to the Soltek web site, but its down again. Still, if what you say is true, then I?m confused about the 1394 standards. Its been difficult to find anything definitive on pin assignments to cable wire color for the motherboard on the web. If you could steer me towards a solution it would be much appreciated. Also, thanks for responding so soon.

I have purchased 2 K8TPro-939 boards and really like them. I ran into an odd issue with memory.

board 1 is using OCZ Performance Series Dual Channel Kit 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3500
and running no problems, dual channel, stable, fast.

board 2 is using OCZ Performance Series 184-Pin 1GB DDR PC-3200 x2
the system runs fine and I ran a memtest no errors. However playing Everquest2 which can utilize 2gb of ram the game crashes. Not immediate crash, sometimes its 30min or 2hrs, however it will do it repeatily. I swapped out vid cards, drivers everything I could think of.

I swapped the memory from board 1 to board 2. Now board 1 is crashing with Everquest2 and board 2 is totally stable. I do not believe it is bad ram at this time. I have setup City of Heroes(mmrpg) and it ran on both systems for 10+hours no crashing, however Im not sure it fully utilizes 2g of ram. I went to the Soltek website to look for a Ram compatability chart and didnot find one. However I found a new bios that says fixes ram imcompataiblity problem. However, this doesnot say what the problem was before and what type of ram. I did install on board 1 (which is the one crashing) and I will test this tonight Dec 13. I would like to know what the compapatility error was that got fixed and if there is a compatabilty chart for RAM for this board.

Thankyou,

Lydia,

I'll probably RMA it today. After trying everything under the sun, I figured I either got a bad board or the SL-K8TPro-939 just doesn't like my setup (which is what I'm guessing) I'm not sure why though...

Since the warranty is through Soltek only, I can either ship it back to newegg and get another one or sell it on the forum...not sure which would be better. I really want to get this board working...but I don't want to have to go through 2 or 3 to decide that it just doesn't work with my system.

I'll probably RMA it though and try another. That way if it still does not work, I'll be able to sell it more confidently knowing it's not a bad board, just my hardware....

kabob983-

Does sound like a bad board. Couple of things.

1. Alwasy a good idea to format and install clean Windows after upgrading ot new MB, keeping old install can cause issues and compatiliby problems.

2. In the Bios, you did set it to boot to CD as first option? then when it boots you ask you to hit any key to boot cd? When you hit any key it should load the windows install beginning.

3. the no bios on Sata error you see is normal. That is the secondary Sata Raid controller which doesnot sould like you are running it. There is a way to bypass that but I dont remembe sitting here at work.

4. When you look into the bios do you see your CD and HD listed? Are you running either of these off the same or different IDE controller?

Ive build 2 pc so far and really like this board, hope you get it working.

BF04,

I can't install a clean copy of windows. When I set the CD-RW as the first priority boot device and put the Win XP Pro cd in, it still does not boot off of the CD. It does not ask for me to hit a key either.

When I look in the BIOS, ONE of my optic drives is listed, and the other is never listed. Someone said that I might have the jumper settings on the two drives both set to Slave, which is odd because I have not messed with the jumpers since I pulled the drives off of my old Dimension 4100 which I bought in Jan '01. What are the Master/Slave settings for optic drives?? One's a Samsung DVD-Rom drive, and I'm unsure of exactly what the 2nd drive is. Also, I believe my WD HDD does not need a jumper if it is the only HDD being used, but just in case, where should the jumper be to set it to master??

I'll take the board out of the box and try a few of these things. If nothing works, I'll RMA it to newegg and try another board.

Feel free to leave advice :p

on back of each device is a seriers of double layer pins and a jumper that you select on to set the device. If it doesnot have a little diagram on the device itself, try and look up the device at the manufactuers website. If its possible you have both set to slave, then try setting the samsung(since your not sure of the other one) to master and boot into bios and see what it says. It should list both of them. As for the HD, samething you should set it to master, if not sure how look up on the WD site and it should say. Also try removing 1 of the optical devices and boot from just the samsung and see.

LydiAtSoltek:

This is moderately off topic: Is there something wrong with Soltek's website (http://www.soltek.com.tw)? I just purchased three SL-K8AR2E-GL motherboards, and can't reach the site to update the bios on any of them. It's been four days since I've been trying, also, and I've tried from several different geographic locations and ISP's.

If the site is down, is there a mirror?

Thank you very much for choosing Soltek MOBO:)
Could you please inform me what you meant by "version 2.0"? Did that indicate the BIOS?

Best regards,

No, I'm not talking about the BIOS, it is the small print you see on the board pcb, says version/reversion 1.0, 1.1,2.0 or whatever. I suppose it figures which borard is the newest made. Sorry for the confusion I costed. Hope you could kindly give me an answer.

Regrads from Toronto.

Haha, apparently my DVD-Rom was set to slave and my CD-RW was set to cable select, so technically neither was set to Master. Odd that it kept reading my DVD-Rom as master.

I have tried several things (switching out my HDD with another, changing the jumper settings, trying different IDE cables) and nothing works. I will be RMAing my mobo to newegg today. I'll have to have them send the new one to my home in Knoxville as Christmas Break is upon us and the University P.O. will be closed...

Hey, at least I tried though!!

hi Lydia

I have a problem with the cpu temperature in bios vs the temperature showed in the hardware monitor.

In the bios it shows 50 at idle, since it's a winchester 3500+ and a large cobber cooler I use, the temp should be more like 30 degrees. The systemtemp is the same in bios and in windows, 27, but the cpu temp is not.

Is the bios wrong or is it the hardware monitor? I don't think the cpu is 50 degrees hot, because it really does not feel like.

Can out help me out or am I off to buy a new cooler just to be 110% sure before I get a new one? :)

I dont think it would be drivers/color depth issue, since I get the same performance under Linux and Windows using the same game.

Eventough, I tried reinstaling the drivers and setting the Color Depth to 16, the lower available from 32, and still get the same results.

I suspect it has to be something in the BIOS, something is limiting my Video Card performance, since if I overclock or dont overclok my CPU still get the same performance, What should I do? Should I try the BIOS you talked about in an earlier post?, I will PM you with my email so that you can send it there if you think it is a worthy choice.

Thanks.

@silverpig
as you can see on page 6 i got 255fsb too
but at 256 its rebooting every time, i dont think that the cpu is the limitation because
1. the cpu boxed cooler is very cold when im touching it
2. a german magazin tested 3 different winchester 3000+ from 3 different shops and all of them
got 290-300 fsb

i think at the time soltek has the limitation, this dont mean that the board is bad...
i love it it has great performance, stability and many great features :)

maybe with the next bios update we can get some more fsb ;)

SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH :/

Even AAT hit 290 MHz HTT with the 3000+. It's not a CPU limit, it is the motherboard. AAT also said the cap for the SL-K8TPro-939 had a max HTT speed was 250 as well, which seems to the ballpark limit for this board. Like Odd said, hopefully a new BIOS release will increase the max overclock...

Right on guys. Great news. Hopefully a new bios will fix this then. In the mean time, I'm happy with my 1800 -> 2300 o/c :)

Hi JimBoZo,
Since the pin-out of the IEEE 1394 connetor on the mainboard is illustrated in the manual, can you find the pin assignment of the IEEE 1394 cable you have?

Thanks and regards,

Hi All,
Regarding the OC limit on the SL-K8TPro-939, you can try the latest BIOS W1.3. According to our BIOS team, this version should meke you go further.
Good luck:)

Thanks and regards,

Hi BF04,
Actually the latest BIOS W1.3 fixed the issue that some DDR400 RAMs can't run at 400MHz when all the 4 DIMM slots are occupied on the SL-K8TPro-939.
Have you raised the "DIMM Voltage" to see if that helps?

Thanks and regards,
