Hi Kabob983,
Could you please reinstall the HDD and make sure it is connected properly? Then test if you can load Windows.

Thanks and regards,

Hi Megatomic,
Regarding the temp. issue, cuold you please inform me what problem it exactly is? Does it relate to Soltek Hardware Monitor?
As to the chip recognization, would you kindly inform me what software you used to check the chip?
(Sorry for so many question!!:))

Thanks and regards,

Hi Lydia. Yes I'm using 4 sticks of 400 MHZ double-sided RAM. The board simply will not run it @400MHZ no matter what, even if I set the timing manually. Take two sticks out, and it runs 400 mhz no problem.

I'm thinking about buying this board aswell seeings as it's cheap, has excellent performance and somewhat good overclocking.
But i wonder, does the AGP/PCI lock really work with all the trouble reported?

Btw, best support ever =)

Lydia,

By reinstall the HDD do you mean just unplug the power and IDE cables and then re-insert them? I think I've already tried that, but it did not work. I'll try again. There should not be a problem with the hard drive as it worked on my s754 platform about a month ago...

Lydia,

The temp. reads differently from SoltekHM and other widely used software packages such as Speedfan, Motherboard Monitor, and EVEREST Home Edition. I understand that as long as it reads right with the SoltekHM app that it is working, but the monitoring chip is not communicating correctly with other utilities.

Regarding the chipset being recognized improperly, I used many. Here are some graphical examples:

CPU-Z

Windows Device Manager

EVEREST Home Edition

WCPUID

And most damning of all:

NVidia System Utility

As can be clearly seen, the chipset is being seen as NF3-250 not NF3-250Gb. Users with competing NF3-250Gb motherboards report that the same utilites report the chipset properly on their systems, and other Soltek K8AN2E-GR users have the same problems I am having. My complaints are not isolated. I think this should be an easy fix, both problems actually. Thanks for reading and helping, Lydia.

Tried replugging the HD to no avail. Do I just need to reformat the HD or something??

When I boot up and it gets to the SATA BIOS, it says there is no device and I get a BIOS not found message. Then it says that Seriel_ch0: no master and something else (this screen goes by quickly).

Any clues before I try the reformat??

Lydia:

I have a question on the pin outs of the IEEE 1394a header on the SL-K8Tpro-939 (the manual by the way is excellent in most respects, good paper, easy to read, very informative). I?m making my own plug-ins to the header to connect to a Bytecc Super Panel (BT-618). On page 34 it indicates that pin 1, which is TPA+, must be the red wire. From what I?ve been able to gather, the TPA+ could only be green or blue. TPA- can be either red or orange. It looks like that when the manual was being written, someone looked at the plug in and got the wire colors turned around. But I could be wrong. Could you help clarify?

Thanks

Thinking about RMAing the board. Never got a reply from the Soltek service and I still can't get anything to work. I can't reinstall Windows either, as it will not let me boot off of the CD-RW...

I've tried everything that's been suggested to me thus far, but with no success yet.

Maybe there is something wrong with the SATA controllers. Doesn't this board have 2 SATA controllers? Try plugging it to the other and disabling the other, that way you'll know if the other has a problem. I dont know if you can disable the SATA controller though.

You could also try flashing the board to version 1.1 or 1.0 to see if it is the 1.2 bios that is causing trouble.

And yes, i think you should format your system drive and do a clean windows install.

I can't format...when I try to boot off of the CD-Rom it gives me a windows error too...kind of odd. Also, I have no SATA devices, so I have nothing hooked up to that. I've got one last idea, and if it doesn't work I'm going to RMA the board and try another brand probably. Maybe MSI (despite how many bad things I've heard about them...)

I dont know what happened to me but it seems that something around the AGP/Graphics system broke.

When I put everything together and reinstalled Windows I was getting around 40+ FPS in Doom3, every game ran smoothly and fast. Now I was benchmarking again, doing some test between Linux (Gentoo AMD64) and Windows and I see that I am getting 27 FPS in Doom 3 using exactly the same settings. I think well lets try putting everything in default(removing overclock and all), to my surpirse I still get 27 FPS. I try some settings in the BIOS, enabling FastWrites, changing AGP mod, changing aperture size, nothing makes a difference, 27 FPS. This is very strange stuff, no matter at what speed I run my CPU I get 27 FPS in Doom 3 under Linux or Windows. I conclude that there is some problem around the Graphics subsystem.

Can anyone please help me? Lydia?

Hi Masher,
We are going to release a new BIOS for the SL-K8TPro-939.
According to our BIOS team, this version will allow you to run 4 sitcks of DDR400/double-sided at 400MHz. If you would like to give it a shot now, please email me and I will send it to you.

Thanks and regards,

Hi Unaimed,
The "AGP/PCI lock" does work on the SL-K8TPro-939. Otherwise, Odd29 couldn't overclock this mainboard up to 255MHz:)
Don't worry.

Thanks and regards,

Hi Odd29,
So far as we know, there may be no software which is able to detect the actual "AGP/PCI clock" when overclocking on any mainboards. That' why we usually use the oscilloscope to verify if the "AGP/PCI clock" is fixed.
Furtermore, I think you need not worry about this issue becasue you have overclocked the system at "255MHz" and this feaure should be working now. Otherwise, you will get unstable problem.

Thanks and regards,

Hi Megatomic,
Thanks for the explanatinon.
So the problem is not the Soltek HM but other monitoring utilities, right?
If so, I would like to apologize for this issue because the BIOS does not support them especially the nVidia System Utility.
I am not sure if it is easy to fix. But I will report to our supervisor and check if we have any plan to get it work.
Sorry to keep you waiting!!

Thanks and regards,

Hi JimBoZo,
Our R&D engineer has checked the pin assignment of IEEE 1394 connector on the SL-K8TPro-939 and he confirmed that it is correct.
Have you purchased the IEEE 1394 cable from Soltek?

Thanks and regards,

Hi Jackeyzhao,
Thank you very much for choosing Soltek MOBO:)
Could you please inform me what you meant by "version 2.0"? Did that indicate the BIOS?

Best regards,
