well I am prime stable @ 275htt and 52c under 100% load this is great ldt is set to 400 because I was trying to push higher I can boot at 285 but it fails prime in 1 minute. This board is a great oc'er in my eyes (now that I know the temps) so if your looking for a great board and reading this thread buy this one it is worth it!!! I may jump up Vcore later to see if it will push higher but a 750mhz oc is pretty nice.

I was leaning towards this board, but I have found a buyer for my 9800Pro, so I am going to look for the K890 :)

It certainly is ! Great work, I won't be able to beat you even if I reach 2.8GHz as I chickened out and bought a 3500+ for multiplier-safety, and I'm almost 100% I won't reach 3GHz ... :D

And, very stable board, I played HL2 for an hour this evening at 1280x960 autosettings @2475MHz. The cpu never got varmer than 43C and everything was smooth, my 6800LE unlocked 16/6 @ 371/841. Still in great need of my new memory though, HL2 have seriously disturbing loading parts with only 512MB. I'm also impressed tha my SuperPi 1MB is as low as 38s with my slow memory at 177MHz(DDR354). This is a fast board.

MTSteel, I would have done the same, but my 9800Pro went dead a while ago so I bought the 6800LE as a reasonably cheap replacement. Since I had great luck in unlocking it and I am overall very pleased with the NV40, I stayed with agp.

Feels good to have a 939-board as I expect to keep my new memory and graphics card for a while(I do more than play games) and still have a potential upgradepath on the cpu. At least as far as the last single-core.

After that I'm dependent on Soltek that they have support good enough to release a bios-update for Toledo dual-core, but if they do and I hope so, this board has an excellent upgradepath except for those totally dedicated to the fastest 3D-performance(aka SLI).

Hi MTSteel,
There's no problem for us to send these capacitors to you.:)
Would you kindly email me at lydia@soltek.com.tw with your address and conect info. Then we will fix the shipment soon.

Hchu,
Thank you very much for the inquiry.
You can contact our Holland branch at sales@soltek.nl to check which resellers carry the SL-K890Pro-939 in UK and then get in touch with them.

Thanks and regards,

Is there any reason to update from the 1.3 bios to 1.4 if I don't care about the temp readings? Also, has anyone using the 1.4 bios compared the temp readings to any of the other programs like Sandra, etc to see if they are accurate? it would be nice to find a utility that gives accurate readings. Sandra reports my board and cpu temps are both 30degC with a room temp of 20. I do have a case fan in the side panel blowing directly on the hsf and an exhaust hole in the top of the case, so it runs very cool- but not that cool. It also says that the "aux" temp is 54degC. I have no idea what this sensor is really measuring- anybody know?

Hi Spdfreak,
The major difference between W1.3 and W1.4 is that the latter fixes temperature issue.
However, if you don't much care about the temperature, you can just stick to W1.3.:)

Thanks and regards,

The aux temp could be your video card gpu if you own a gpu which supports an on-die monitoring diode.

Anyone here have any concerns about the K890 and the 20 pin power connector? If the extra 4 pins are for powering the pciex16 slot for high powered gpu's, and this board does not have the 24 pin connector, will we be limited to what PCIe cards will work properly in this board? Many PCIe boards do not have molex power connectors on them as the AGP did do they?

Yep, that is probably my vid card. It is a GF6800, and according to the nvidia temp monitor, it runs about 54-55deg C at idle.

Still problem with Dual Channel !

I never got dual channel on my K8TPro-939 to work with my old 2x512MB Elixir PC3200 and one stick went dead when trying so I only had 1x512 left. Quite handicapping.

So I ordered 2x512MB A-Data PC4800 but they seem to take forever to arrive so I cancelled the order and bought 2x512MB TwinMos Twister Pro PC3200 2-2-2-5 TCCD/Brainpower instead. They where also cheaper and still it's the same TCCD and PCB.

But they won't boot in dual channel either, nothing but the dreaded C1 whatever I do !

Could someone please point me in the direction where I might be doing wrong ? Or do I have a faulty cpu or a faulty motherboard ? I know my PSU is weak(Q-Tec 550W 16A 12V 20A peak 12V) but 2 dimms in single channel do work, so why isn't dual channel working ? Is the Soltek bios still less than perfect in regard to memory compability ? Also, if I set command rate to 1T the board won't boot in songle channel either, C1 again. Or is the cpu memory controller defect ? At least the cpu clocks rather good, 2.5GHz was NO problem and no heat.

So now I run my 2x512MB 217MHz fsb/mem 1:1 at the moment 2.4GHz/433mem 2.5-3-3-8 at 2T which isn't exactly fast, barely faster than my 1x512MB of Elixir at 2.5GHzz/354mem 2.5-3-3-7 at 1T. At least I have 1GB again, which is nice as 512MB is way too little today, but if performance isn't faster than this I can as well start using the Elixir stick for 1.5GB as I wont hold anything back performancewise anyway. The board won't boot at high performance settings, that's it.

I might still get higher in frequency though, but that seems not so fun in singel channel and 2T.

What is it whith this board and dual channel and 1T ? I would really aprecciate an educated answer from Lydia or elsewhere, or do I have to go and get a Nforce 3 250 Ultra-board to get dual channel ?

The least troublesome would be if this is an bios-issue: bios compability or myself setting it up awkward, after that I guess getting a new PSU would be the next less troublesome as I know my PSU isn't exactly good, but what if it isn't the PSU either and I go and get an expensive PSU in vain ?

Come on, use your brains, and I will be very very happy to get some good input :D

sounds like a bad mem controller I'd try a new cpu then the new mobo if that doesnt work.

Thx for your suggestions guys, dashiki; I do hope nothing is broken and it's just a configuration issue. In single channel I've had no problems reaching 11x225 = 2475MHz core /225MHz(ddr450) mem (1:1) without even trying higher, it's 100% stable. Still, it won't even boot in dual.

I read somewhere one could press "insert" during boot for the bios to recognize the new memory configuration, I haven't tried that yet.

Unaimed, yes, the first thing I did already with my old memory was to flash the 1.4 bios, using all command line parameters for maximum cleaning from the old bios including the bios boot sector and the dmi-pool. After I put in the new memory I haven't reflashed but I have cleared the bios several times. Right now, the "insert" thing is the only thing I haven't tried except yet another flash(to the same bios).

I also read about a DFI-board that more Vcore and more Vdimm resolved the same issue on DFI. I'm at 1.47 Vcore right now and memory set to 2.8V. Could more Vcore do it ?

Anyway, performance is quite good for single channel and 2x512 at only 225MHz mem clock(so far), well over 3GB/s in all memory benchmarks and only 47ns memory latency. But since the cpu has almost 200 extra pins for the dual channel mem controller it feels not so good not to use them ...

The problem is resolved !
And it's embarassing, I feel like a real no0b, you know what: always when I've inserted memory modules I've pushed mostly at one side at a time to get the clips to snap on the modules. As you know by now, it only randomly works. By pure accident, after trying changing modules numerous times, I started pushing in the middle of the module from straight upwards so that both clips snapped simultaneously and Voila! I'm running dual-channel ! Also by pure accident it was on slot 3 and 4 I got it to work, but know I don't dare to test slot 1 and 2 if I can't repeat the correct insertion ..
Anyway, performance went up noticeably and right now I have over 6.5GB/s in memory bandwith. Does anyone know if it's worth testing slot 1 and 2 for even better performance ?

And Dashiki, it won't be long before I'm at 7GB/s

I treid both and tested in sandra no difference at all. some say the traces are shorter but with our past troubles I'd just be happy with the way it worked out.

or you could go by the moto welive by here on Cape Cod, "If it aint broke, fix it 'til it is." :D

"If it aint broke, fix it 'til it is.""

That's me by nature :D

I will use slot 3 and 4 for a while now, and see if I can fry the board instead ...

Question - Can you flash the K8Tpro-939's BIOS in WINDOWS? I don't have a floppy drive... Maybe a bootable BIOS image CD would work.. I jsut don't want to screw with a Working MB and Experiment with a FLASH.. Too SCARY!!!

Thanks!

Burn a bootable CD in Nero and put Dr.DOS, awdflash and the biosfile on it. Then boot and just follow the instructions in the board manual as if it where a floppy. There is no Windowsflash for this board.

And, don't flash it if it aint a particularly annoying bug you wan't to get rid of that is fixed in a newer bios version.

X2C, I didn't know it worked with this board, thx for the tip ! I'm not 100% sure I'd risk it though, somehow it feels safer with a manufacturers original flash-utility like Abits, but that might be nothing more than a feeling. It looks like it works for you :D
