Here's the article from NBCnews.
NBCnews: SEAL, American Girl Die in First Trump-Era U.S. Military Raid
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I wanted to bring attention to the story because it seems to have gotten lost in all the ruckus lately.
Apparently in the the latest Yemen raid the SEAL was not the only casualty. According to Pentagon there were "numerous" civillian casualties, among them 8-year old American girl, Nawar al-Awlaki. Nawar was daughter of American Anwar al-Alwaki who was killed by a drone strike in 2011. Her brother in law was also apparently killed in the raid, her mother survived with minor wounds.
So here we have another raid, plenty of conflicting information. Pentagon says, that civilian women that were killed during the raid were actually military combatants, on the other hand various Yemen sources dispute that statement and say that as many as seven children ages 3 to 13 were killed.
But at least no one is disputing than an 8 year old American girl Nawar al-Awlaki was killed in the raid. By my crude account this makes it 4th member of her extended family killed. Her father Anwar al-Awlaki, his son Abdulrahman al-Awlaki, Nawar al-Awlaki, and her brother in law. At least two of these four people were completely innocent of any wrong doing. Yemen officials and everybody else are already circulating photos of dead children, including that of Nawar al-Awlaki, which for sure is going to fuel anti-American sentiment in the Middle East and I'm sure it'll drive ISIS recruitment numbers up. If that isn't enough, remember how Trump said "you have to take out their families" on Fox interview? And then doubled down on Face the Nation saying he would go after the wives? And then tripled down during Republican debates saying he'd expand the laws implying he'd allow for waterboarding and perhaps even clear the way for going after family members, as long as it's "lawful", it's all good? I'm sure that is all going to come up and will be used for new ISIS recruitment, the Muslim ban in just icing on the cake. I don't think Trump knows of law of unintended consequences, he doesn't think before he acts, he doesn't think one day into the future. I'm really afraid we'll go balls to the walls with him promising to eradicate radical Islamic terrorism creating generations of anti-American sentiment in the middle east which we will feel for decades if not entire century to come. So far Trump has delivered the perfect material for years of ISIS recruitment machine. Great job, making America War Machine Great Again.
