True, most of those over there stealing children are missionaries of the Catholic persuasion, however almost all other help workers are part of secular organisations so no one really knows what their persuasion is.

NO rescue was mostly from the Islamic community though, wasn't it?

Okey doke.

I would just like to see the various nations deliver on their promise of aid.

Or even just their UN due.

That would bankrupt the US in one easy step so be careful what you wish for.

China and India would also be in trouble, along with Japan and Russia but not THAT much.

You sounded like you knew something regarding the NO catastrophe and i asked you a question on the matter, am i wrong, right or is there no information on the matter?

Actually I'm posting between work and I haven't the time nor inclination to argue.

We'll just go with what you say and that's fine with me.

How does one post 1,200 times in only two months and still have any semblance of a life?

As much as I am loathe to use analogies, it is the only way I can think of to explain my take on the % of GDP. I see it as comparing someone who makes $100/day to someone makes $1000/day. If they both donate $10 a day, that's 10% from person A but 1% from person B, so you could argue person A is more generous.

Oh I do get the point. Smaller countries can't be blamed for not being able to give as much as larger ones. They give what they can and percentage wise they often give more of themselves than larger ones. It's generosity measured by how much your gift affects you.

I have a better analogy. Say you have one person with $100 and another with $10,000. The first gives $10 while the second gives $100. Even though the first is putting themselves out much more to squeeze out their meager gift, it is dwarfed by the second person's gift, though the second will barely feel the impact. If the ultimate goal is to get money to people who need it, the second person is doing 10x the real good that the first person is doing, and no amount of judgmental nit-picking on the part of anyone else can take that away from them.

I am sick and tired of all the grand gesturing the various head of state make when they announce aid in x amount and then nothing happens.

I'm reminded of Ronald Reagan who made a point in his campaign for the Presidency to say we should give less a nation, and cut taxes so individuals would have more to give to charity..

then Reagans tax returns were made public....and it turned out despite being uber rich and making tons of money Reagan gave almost nothing to charity

America is bigger then most companies. When you compare America to smaller countries like Germany, UK, Britain, etc then we give more doe to our enormous size.

If you look at it on a by person or by gdp ratio then you see we're quite stingy.

I think it's because of Atheists. Not believing in an afterlife means that you have to make the best of things while we are still alive. Thus, Atheists do the most to improve the quality of life of those around them.

Interesting theory but the facts don't support. Do a little research.

JoS, I didn't mean suck as literally you meant the USA sucks. I was just using it because I didn't really feel like typing a lot.

wasn't trying to talk shit or imply you were. sorry for the misunderstanding.

Prove he isn't right, that is the game you like to play, so go right ahead.

Okay.

"Charity differences between religious and secular people persist if we look at the actual amounts of donations and volunteering. Indeed, measures of the dollars given and occasions volunteered per year produce a yawning gap between the groups. The average annual giving among the religious is $2,210, whereas it is $642 among the secular. Similarly, religious people volunteer an average of 12 times per year, while secular people volunteer an average of 5.8 times. To put this into perspective, religious people are 33 percent of the population but make 52 percent of donations and 45 percent of times volunteered. Secular people are 26 percent of the population but contribute 13 percent of the dollars and 17 percent of the times volunteered.
These differences hardly change when we consider them in isolation from the other demographics, using a statistical technique called tobit regression. Religious practice by itself is associated with $1,388 more given per year than we would expect to see from a secular person (with the same political views, income, education, age, race, and other characteristics), as well as with 6.5 more occasions of volunteering."

Secularists are stingy with their time and their money.

Don't fret, the Democrats are hell bent on putting stop to this practice. Only the government should have the capacity to dole out charity...to buy votes.
