Gonna post a "fair warning" mod comment here for the community's benefit and behest: Critique the message (the context and pretext of the contents of the link itself), not the messenger.

And that goes for the messenger of the message within the link. You can critique the message, the method of its delivery, and your perception of the intent if you feel inclined. But personal attacks against Apoppin are not acceptable as he is a member of this community.

"What a DB" is not acceptable, "the method used by Apoppin makes me question his journalistic integrity" is acceptable. Separate your issues with the topic itself from that of making it a personal issue. (if that is where you fall on the matter)

Threadcrapping in this thread is not acceptable. If you don't like the thread then don't post in it. The very topic itself is intrinsically inflammatory, as such it is the ruling of the VC&G moderator staff that this thread is NOT a flamebait thread.

Find a way to be productive, respectful, and civil OR stay out of the thread. Personal attacks, thread-craps, etc will be sanctioned.

Why hasn't the conclusion been posted yet? We all know it was written first.

"What a DB" is not acceptable, "the method used by Apoppin makes me question his journalistic integrity" is acceptable.
I question his journalistic integrity :p

actually I dont.. I dont think hes payed for by nvidia.

The 2006 stuff looks solid enough, I do however think hes on a witch hunt, and is going to draw conclusions based on asumptions that most people wouldnt make (and their wrong).

Like Tincart said, the conclusion is already writen, before you started any research so its weird its not there.

If you set out to find something you find it. Conspircy nuts probably see paterns, they can link together as proof of something, when reality is its not.

Apoppin again makes assertions with nothing substantial, another thread of conjecture. With emphasis on thread, apparently even a random thread created on a forum with no substance is worthy of threads made on another forum. Perhaps I should create a thread about what I thought I might have for lunch today.

There is nothing of substance in that opinion thread that points to what he is suggesting. If you want an example of stealth marketing, not viral mind you, but stealth. Meaning participating in a forum community to put across a message with the intent to make one company look better than another in a coordinated manner - this would fit the bill -

Two threads made on two different forums, both by nvidia focus group members within minutes of each other, delivering the same message:

Thread #1 here on Anandtech by one nvidia focus group member:

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2121441&highlight=

Post date & time : 11-19-2010, 07:14 PM EST

http://blogs.nvidia.com/ntersect/201...e-quality.html

Looks like several review sites across the pond are taking IQ a bit more seriously.

This is related to the Catalyst 10.10s and I believe 10.11's. Also related to the FP16 to R11G11B10 render targets that was talked about in another thread here. When I find it, I'll link it up here.
Thread #2 on Guru3d by another nvidia focus group member:

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=332883

Post date & time 11-19-2010, 7:24PM EST

http://blogs.nvidia.com/ntersect/201...34893bdb76970c

Hmmm. Apparently ATi is using some optimizations that reduce IQ by lowering AF to gain a few fps. A return to the brilinear days of yore, pretty obvious in the TweakPC videos.

Just ordered a 6870 to check it out for myself.

The above is a clear example of a coordinated effort being made to impart a message via technology forums that makes one company look better than another directly in the context of video cards and nvidia vs AMD. Can apoppin provide a similar example but one done without the signatures clarifying affiliation ? An interesting anecdote is that on guru the thread was locked as being a repost of information that was already discussed in other threads with direct links rather than through nvidia - the situation was the same on anand, but the thread continued here.

Doesn't look like he can.

Nvidia posted that above ATI optimization cheat in a story on their blog, on Nov 19. There was not much stealth to it. You can choose to get new stories emailed to you when posted / twitter /facebook
etc.

Important Benchmarking Issues and Questionable Optimizations
We are writing this blog post to bring broader attention to some very important image quality findings uncovered recently by top technology Web sites including ComputerBase, PC Games Hardware, Tweak PC, and 3DCenter.org. They all found that changes introduced in AMD’s Catalyst 10.10 default driver settings caused an increase in performance and a decrease in image quality. These changes in AMD’s default settings do not permit a fair apples-to-apples comparison to NVIDIA default driver settings. NVIDIA GPUs provide higher image quality at default driver settings, which means comparative AMD vs. NVIDIA testing methods need to be adjusted to compensate for the image quality differences.

I find it sad that such topics are being supported by the forum moderators of Anandtech while they get shut down for the obvious stealth marketing and bad PR messages they are in other forums/on other sites.

In my opinion this sets precedence and welcomes other such topics with just as much inflammatory and baiting content.

As has been pointed out, this is one messenger with a message that on all accounts, has no basis in truth. Its spin for site hits, and as pointed out by others, with 6 posters total, including one Wreckage, alienbabeltech has sunk to an all time low.

Im glad BFG left that site. That choice proves his integrity and at the same times says alot about that sites integrity and the messages and influence it is trying to spread.

The message is not a message, its marketing made by spin doctors.

Personally, I would expect more "smoking gun" level of evidence given Appopin's build up.

Are you ok with this thread?

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2222026

I didn't see your complaint there...

Sure. That thread links to a forum post on Chiphell made by one of the people who runs the site informing the forum members there he banned a poster for spreading false rumours about nvidia's upcoming card that spread to other forums. He then also adds it won't be tolerated anymore and feels it was done at nvidia's behest.

It is valid in that the same rumours were posted here that spread from those posts and even got a rumour article on Tom's Hardware, so it clarifies said rumours being bogus and not actually having come from the usual Chiphell sources.

Far cry from a spin thread of FUD with both broad and wild speculation with no facts.

One is a thread with a link to another forum about viral marketing.

The other is a thread with a link to another forum about viral marketing.

See if you can figure out which is which.

Apple meet... apple?

The difference is in the thread contents and what it pertains to. You're cherry picking the peel and ignoring the contents. Fail on two fronts.

What is with you guys and the words "cherry picking"?

You're right, they do pertain to two different things. One is about AMD shills, the other is about Nvidia shills. Therein lies the difference of why you don't like this post, but the other is a-ok!

You just did it again, highlighting the peel, ignoring the contents. Lost cause and serious logic fail. Carry on.

I would like to respectfully disagree with you on the Rollo comment. The AMD "shills", fanbois, or whatever they are, are all very amateurish. Rollo, otoh, was extremely intelligent, professional, and was able to deceive many intelligent people for a long period of time.

BTW, the reason Apoppin is so pissed at AMD is that they called him a few years ago and basically laid out their viral marketing plan for him. When he got offended/upset/etc, it started a long downward slope to his relationship with them, to the point that now they've lost one of their biggest fans. He still claims to this day that 2900xt was a great video card, and he can list numerous bullet points defending his orange box purchase. AMD lost him the same way that nvidia lost many of us during the AEG days, and it's very unfortunate that they weren't willing to try finding a way to salvage that relationship.

BS. I seen right threw rollo and you guys know a fought him tooth and nail and banned a few times wrongly so . BUT I was banned using another name so I was wrong also. . Keys again you know me . I really don't like the additions to the post you made . I have to point out the locked 7950 topic that topic was wrongly locked as others are allowed to live that are as bad if not worse , Fair and balanced.

Appopin claims he has been under NDA since 5 series but the review of HD7970 say otherwise, I don’t think AMD is so negligent in endorsing a site that bashes it (Most articles are negative on that site), or maybe further refinements is still yet needed in (AMD) the New Product Review Program (NPRP).

my brain hurts.

Same here. I don't get it at all. Is he collecting finger pointing forum posts as his source material? How does that make for a publishable article?

I thought he said he already had evidence, names, etc. His evidence was a couple of 5 year old press releases??

But personal attacks against Apoppin are not acceptable as he is a member of this community.

Administrator Idontcare

It has been over a month since Apoppin has visited here, and he has stated on his web site that he is done here (along with some disparaging remarks about those of us that still post here).

My question is when does someones community membership expire?
