As one data point - I own the Asus RX480 Dual Fan ( White ) - I've gamed many hours on it now without incident.
I have the 4GB version that I run at 1325 (stock?), and the memory at 2000mhz.
 
Well, the new 604 bios for the Asus x370-Pro is not working out so well for me.

I had memory stable at 3000 before with 515 bios but now i cant get it to not boot loop with even 2400mhz now, will only boot windows at 2133. Even CL18 timings and 1.35v with SOC@1.1V it will not boot windows @2400. FML.

Going to flash back to 515 now.

Odd because I can get my RAM from 2400 to 2666.
 
With earlier BIOS versions, CPU temp running Prime95 was about 75C for me, now it's about 62C. What's the real temp? Who knows. Probably somewhere between 50C and 85C.😳
Disable Sense Skew, then the real temp of Prime95 is Tctl - 20 C up until 95 C. At 95 C the real temp is somewhere in between 75 C and 95 C (socket temp will increase toward 60 C) and you will see soft throttling (x36.8 down to around x30 on stop CPU). Once the CPU hits real 95 C it will drop down to x0.5 and you know where you are at. 😉

With Sense Skew enabled when your socket temp climbs over 70 C then your CPU likely hits over 100 C even when Tctl is in the 60s, I saw . This means that Sense Skew is *not* a fixed -20 C for higher temps and Asus knows that. Elmor acknowledged that Sense Skew can (I say will) keep your CPU from thermal shutdown.
 
He specifically wants a white-colored video card to match his theme. The Asus Dual series for Radeon are pretty crappy/poor QA so in this instance, the 1060 is the safer bet.

If he didn't care about color it'd be very difficult to beat a deal on a RX470 or RX480, however.

Don't think there's an option for Sense Skew on the Prime. Asus just automagically dropped the reported temps by 12-20 C with the BIOS update.
 
In that case they might have implemented a skewing function without control over it. This isn't necessarily a positive thing if it keeps the CPU from thermal shutdown and throttling (stock) like it does on the CH6.

Concerning Tctl offset (regardless of skew): Do you get jumping temps on the Prime, like during normal desktop use seeing the temp jump by +10 C just to see it gradually drop and then jump up again?

A bunch of the same reports depending on your RAM type. I'm running my TridentZ 3200C16 at 2933 at on BIOS 0515 and on BIOS 0604 it beeps and boot loops on anything over 2400. For others (likely Samsung b-die only), they were able to go from 2933 to 3200.
 
Managed to find a workaround to the RAID issue. apparently you have to reset CMOS, activate RAID, and config RAID in the subsequent reboot for it to work. otherwise cannot access RAID controller interface.

Here are some BF1 and BF4 64 multiplayer benchmarks with 1600 CPU@3.7Ghz all core and 16GB@3000C14. always walked right into battles to maximize explosive scenes. with RX470 stock OC from MSI Gaming X. 1080p MAX settings DX11. will do 720p to get rid of GPU bottleneck, but the moral of this is that no given core is at 100%, pretty rare in MP games like BF1/BF4.

NOTE: dips in BF4 was because I had to alt + Tab a few times

Plastidip, eh... never thought about that.

I'll second or third the recommendation for a 480. It seems like the safer bet and with Freesync and a Ryzen chip you'll have the smoothest gaming experience at 1080 that you could ever have.

I don't have a Freesync monitor, and I already have two 24" 1080p IPS panels that I'm not replacing. A new monitor isn't in the budget.

Not so much with the newer BIOS versions, but this happened a lot with the older BIOS versions. Now it's a pretty consistent 39-42C during normal use and light gaming, but with prime95 it jumps to the high 50's pretty quickly.
I've set the temp thresholds to Low: 40, Mid: 45C, High: 50C to make sure the CPU fan always hits full speed during heavy loads.
 
BF4 64 player 720p with RX470, Operation Metro 2014. This one is very telling as one will notice that the GPU is not even at its full clock speed, but stays at 900+Mhz. the engine caps out at 200 fps. and thats where it stays most of the time. Did not expect that honestly.

Core usage:
Real core -> 90% on main thread, others at 40-50%. nothing on SMT cores.

This is true. I have a bad feeling it might be like the 480 launch though, and the prices will be outrageous at the start. I seriously doubt any 580 would be worth $300!

It certainly wouldn't hurt to wait a week though.

@ Raduqu: If you aren't buying for a couple months, then you shouldn't make up your mind on a GPU right now. There will be completely different options on the table 2 months from now.

I'm not buying today, or even in the next couple weeks. It'll be a couple months or more before I buy the GPU, because I'm buying things a piece at a time.

Edit: If I go with a 480... 4gb or 8gb? I think 8gb would be a bit more future proof, yeah?

Videocardz had some EU prices today and it seems the 580 8GB will be 229$ in the US. Not great considering the recent deals for the 480 but not horrible vs RX480 launch price if it boosts clocks by 15%.
AMD really needs Vega 11 at 300-350$ for folks that have no reason to pay for Vega 10.
 
It's because those of us running the betas and beating on the platform with a hammer have been letting mobo makers know what things work/don't work/need fixin' 😉

And I appreciate it. Had to boost the voltage though to be stable in prime.

Yeah its really weird, im back on 515 rock stable on the ram@3000. Whatever AMD or Asus did with this new microcode to have better ram comparability failed hardcore.

Im going back to the old way of thinking, only upgrade bios when it adds something you need, otherwise leave it the hell alone. Ill probably stay on 515 at least until my new ram shows up then ill re-evaluate.

1T or 2T. G.Skill lists the appropriate XMP command rate on their site.
