Guys is there any magic trick to getting handbrake to use more then 30% of the cpu? I have gone through and encoded a VOB file to MKV H.265 under pretty much every setting they have and it still uses the same amount of cpu usage. it has been hovering from 25%-30% on all 8 cores/16 threads over and over and over.I am using performance mode in windows 10 power option and with task manager open its saying the CPU is only getting up to 3.6GHz when it should be hitting 4.0Ghz. No heat issues either so its not throttling.. I am at a total loss here and dont know what to do. even my core i3 6300 encodes faster then this.Speed is the same on the second pass as well...

Could be it hit a thermal or overcurrent protection. Usually unplugging the PSU/switching it off and leaving things to sit 30 minutes will reset it and allow it to power on again.

Don't ask me how I know this 😀

At least, that's the best case scenario...
Well, unplugged, 30 minutes, second PSU, dead as a doornail. Motherboard ? I give up for tonight, too pissed to think straight. It was working, but at 80c, and I had just plugged in another fan, and the temp was going down, 79c (99c) when it died.

And its the same motherboard my 1800x was at 1.375 and 3950, but on an H100i@62c. The only real difference was, was that I had added a 980TI to the motherboard, and it was at 100% load (F@H)

Maybe the $89 motherboard can;t handle that ? It was on a $50 motherboard with an 860 AMD quad core before I replaced the the motherboard with this one.

BTW, my 212EVO was doing a really bad job cooling. The 2nd fan (push/pull) was start to make a difference when it died.

are you using an optical disc as the source?

OK, guys, the problem was too much power on one outlet. It blew the circuit breaker. I feel like such an idiot..... But tomorrow, I redo the 1700x and the 1800x on the Taichi !!!

Edit. An E5-2683 with 2 1070's and an E6700k with 2 1080's and the Ryzen and a 980TI and the whole kitchen circuit was too much. I feel like an idiot not noticing the other 2 systems were also down.

Lol! That's like the opposite of the classic not having it plugged in. You plugged in too much 😀

To be precise, plugging in ONE additional fan was too much for the fuse 😀 There was some fine balance of the force at work there till that point!

Glad your system was okay. Good luck with the Taichi! If you want any pointers let me know . . . on my end, it's still very hard for me to get a successful RAM overclock in the UEFI, though it can be done. Gradually.

Commonplace for miners.

I've never not had it take all the CPU it can EXCEPT when I recently started converting to H.265. And that's using an FX8350.

Try converting to H.264 and see if that makes a difference.

So it was a thermal/overcurrent protection... but for the whole circuit! lol

I've definitely tripped the breakers before between F@H and Ethereum mining. I measure the power at the wall for each rig now and make sure I'm not loading each circuit more than 50% of its maximum amperage (to give some additional safety margin)

I don't use handbrake, and I haven't dealt with anything as low-res as DVD on my Ryzen system yet, but....
First, make sure there isn't something trying to use gfx hardware for the encode. This is especially true on your skylake system, as handbrake may be using the QSV on your i3. As a point of comparison, it is one of the main advantages of the intel hardware in video production, and I've already noted my desire for better decode assistance....
After that, you might try playing with the slice/CTU settings. Breaking up the encode of the picture into several regions and throwing a different thread at it should help, although a DVD is such a small picture to start with, breaking it up into regions may have visible consequences to picture quality.

Which version of Handbrake?
I am using the newest version of handbrake 1.0.3 . I even tried to install an older version to see if that would make a difference. No matter what it is only using a max of 30% of all my cores. The source is on a ssd. Even the video comparing a i7 6900k vs a r7 1800x shown by Lisa Su shown at the reveal when using handbrake was maxing out all the cores..

Are you saying no matter what file you try? Or is it only having an issue with that particular file?

Errrr, there seems to be an FMA3 bug and sinse the AVX2 is split up into 2 128 paths its causing slow down with the x265 encoding extensions 🙁 I found this info posted on the Handbrake forums and Doom9 forums... They are trying to code a work around, but for now I guess its slow encodes by half or more or I'm outta luck with this cpu and encoder.

The FMA3 bug is being fixed by AGESA code but no idea where each motherboard manufacturer is with that.

I've been converting a bunch of x264 to x265 on my Ryzen and it's working fine. Operating at 100% core usage.

How are you getting 100% usage? I am getting 30% usage. can you try opening task manager and change to resource manager to show all cores while running Handbrake? Are you using 2 pass?
Also what O/S are you using? I am using windows 10.

Yes I have task manager showing all cores, 16 blocks and all running 100%. 2 pass is selected and I'm running Windows 10. I'm also running in high performance power saving mode and on fast track ring for windows.

I've been using handbrake a ton lately and my 1700 definitely uses all 8 cores / 16 threads.

Did you do a clean install of windows 10 for your new system? Not sure if that helps.
I am using all 8c/16t but only 30% usage of those cores and threads 🙁 Yes I did a fresh install of windows 10.

Hey guys.
Has anybody trying deploying a windows installation image of windows 10 1703 b15063 "creators update" from one Ryzen PC to another Ryzen PC?
I am facing a quite strange issue:

* Deploying an image of win 10 15063 created in one Ryzen PC to another Ryzen PC will not activate.
* Both computers have valid digital licenses. In fact, deployment of an image of the previous windows version (anniversary update, win 10 14393) would pick the activation on the target PC almost immediately. Only the creator's update is the one giving trouble, and only if deploying an image to another Ryzen PC.
* If doing an in-place upgrade of a windows 10 install 14393 to 15063 in a system that already had a digital license, it will activate fine.
* If doing a clean install of win 10 15063 in a system that already had a digital license, it will activate fine.
* However, if deploying from a win 10 15063 image to another Ryzen system that already had a digital license, it will NOT activate.

* Base windows 10 15063 install created and tweaked in a system that already had a digital license where it activated fine. Image is created from this install. No sysprep. Hardware is identical on the target PC. Then, deploying said image to a different system that already had a digital license, it will not activate in the new system
* When trying to run the activation troubleshooter in the new PC, I get the message "A digital license for windows 10 home has been found for this system running windows 10 home. Install windows 10 home to activate" 🙄😵😕

* No sysprep applied to the windows install before creating the image, and the image is being created using Norton Ghost 11.5.
I have done it this way a lot of times in previous win10 builds (1511 and 1607) and it worked fine.
At most, it took 1-2 reboots after the image was deployed on the new system to pick the activation
Images are being deployed to PCs that ALREADY have a valid Win 10 digital license.
The issue is exclusive to a Ryzen target PC. Deploying the win 10 15063 image to an AM3+ system that also had a valid digital license will pick up the activation fine. 😱
There is something with the promontory chipsets.

I really DO NOT want to apply sysprep as the settings have been tweaked and don't want to redo them for every PC.

Maybe this post should be in the operating systems section, but I was wondering if someone with more than one Ryzen PC had trying imaging win 10 15063 to the other one.
Ryzen has been reported to perform really well in win 10 1703 b15063 creators update so I decided to jump the gun.

My 1800x just doesn't like H.265. when using H.264 it now gets up to 75-76% usage. I also noticed its not turboing up to 4.0Ghz from the 3.6Ghz.. Also what is Ftpm in bios for cpu?
