The $100 off at Mircocenter is for the 1700X not the 1700, The 1700 with cooler only has $50 off. Still a pretty good deal. Personally, I am just going to wait and see where the cards fall with all of this. My current machine is an i5-6600K with a Z170 board. If MC drops the price of the i7-7700k, I think I will drop one of those CPUs in and call it a day. If not, I will have to really think about selling what I have to go to AMD again. AMD has not been a primary rig build for almost 10 years now. The last one was a the venable Barton XP 2500 OCed to 3200 spec with an ATI X850XT Pro AGP card. That system still ran as a secondary rig for almost another 2 o 3 years before part out. I digress.
Must have been a price mistake. When I posted the link it definitely advertised $100 off 1700. At some time later they changed it to only 50. I think lucky few at SD managed to snag couple of combos.

My Taichi is coming tomorrow. I'll have my Gigabyte K7 and Noctua D15 today though. Hopefully its memory compatibility is better than my Gaming 3...

IEC, my Gskill FlareX ram at 3200 just came in and runs perfectly at 3200 with the Asus C6H. All I had to do is enable D.O.C.P. standard and it booted right into 3200 speed. My BIOS is 1002.

🙂 🙂 🙂

Thats pretty cool but I am more interested in seeing a new stepping of 170,1700x and 1800x and hopefully they improve clock speeds a bit more then a max 4.1Ghz 🙁

$219 for a 6c/12t processor with HSF included that can OC to 3.8GHz+. Might not tick all the boxes for everyone but that is an excellent value. I'm not sure the extra $30 (+ heatsink) for the 1600X would be worth it, but we'll see with reviews whenever the 1600X launches.

The 1600 and 1500x definitely seem like the best values.

I don't see why anyone would get the 1400 really. You get a lot more in the 1500x for only $20!

The 1600x + cooler puts you in 1700 territory.

There was a rumored 1400X that looked better on paper before the official announcement, but yeah the 1400 doesn't look particularly attractive unless the price comes down on it.

With the new AX370 Gaming 5 beta BIOS (F5g) I am able to now run EVGA 3200 Mhz DDR4 rock solid at XMP timings (3200 16-18-18 1.35v). Previously it usually ran at these settings but crashed consistently in the Prime 95 blend test. I don't know if the FMA3 fix or the new memory controller code fixed it, but I am a happy camper.

Dumb question but how do I find AIDA 64 memory and cache benchmark thing? I can only find the aida 64 extreme trial or whatever.

Just Google Aida64 Extreme and it will refer you to the Finalwire, Ltd web page and then download the trial version. I have owned a licensed version of Aida64 for quite some time and it is well worth it.

OK, just got my Taichi, but the first order of business was to get my 1700x cracking on WCG on the 340 Pro4. So its on a 212 EVO running 102c (82c real ??) @ 3,8 ghz. Does this sound OK ? 1.375 vcore ? or is it time for a noctura or something.

From the Strictly Technical thread (I don't think my response is suited to that thread, so I hope moving the response here is ok)
New beta BIOSes from Gigabyte: http://forum.gigabyte.us/thread/886/am4-beta-bios-thread
It seems that at least some of them use the new 1.0.0.4 AGESA.

This BIOS allowed my RAM to be stable at 3200, which is awesome. R/W bandwidth is up about 30%, and latency is down to 72ns. Almost reasonable latency now.

Sadly, it made absolutely no difference to the software I'm running. Apparently I really need a massive increase in clockspeed, or about one 4:2:2 10bit 4k60p h264/265 decode h/w per core (and the software support for it). I don't suppose there's a number I can call? 🙂

At 1.375 vcore, probably right if WCG can push the CPU similar to prime?

Why is it 82 real? Isn't the 1700 not adjusted for temps, only the 1700X/1800X? Scary!

1700 non-X doesn't have a temp offset AFAIK. Hopefully that reading is wrong - I thought it was supposed to hit thermal protection around 95C real and shut down the system...

Sorry, 1700x, but it just shut down, won't even power fans now. PSU died ?? not sure.

Could be it hit a thermal or overcurrent protection. Usually unplugging the PSU/switching it off and leaving things to sit 30 minutes will reset it and allow it to power on again.

Don't ask me how I know this 😀

At least, that's the best case scenario...

Got my hyper 212 AM4 mounting bracket today. Probably a better cooler than the wraith with the 1700.

Now all I need is the motherboard, a Gaming 3, to arrive. It supposedly arrived and might be at the apartment office.

Already have a 1700 and 16GB 3200 RAM. And I have lots of recorded TV shows to encode!
