Not at all, the metal bracket in the back (which comes with the motherboard) is supposed to spread the pressure and reinforce it. I don't really see how it could damage the motherboard. It's pretty sturdy.

I haven't used an air cooler in a while, and while I am really happy with the Noctua D15 and the way it's keeping the CPU cool. I must say I miss all the space I had with AIOs. I forgot to plug the power cable for the CPU when I mounted my motherboard and man it was a major pain getting there and plugging those cables in after the fact. Luckily removing the Noctua fans is super easy which bought me some space to be able to do it.

I'm sure those work quite well, as do a number of other coolers in the $40-$50 range. I just wanted to clarify on comments I made earlier in the thread about the difference between the two different D15 models.

Right now the "best" HSFs are the D15, the high-end Phanteks, and whatever is the latest Silver Arrow. Plus the TRUE Spirit 140 has its fans. But I haven't found anything that can actually do better than the D15 yet. Furthermore, it doesn't look like Zen responds all that well to cooling beyond a certain point anyway. It looks process limited at around the 4.1 GHz mark. I don't think even custom water will do much to overcome that hurdle.
 
If any of you have a Ryzen + AMD GPU system (preferably 290 class or better), and have Fallout 4, I've a couple of save files in specific spots where my Phenom II goes to the low twenties. I'd like to see if Ryzen pulls a solid sixty with these draw calls, as Nehalem can with a healthy overclock.

Couple of core configs in particular I want to check; full 8 cores, 4 cores (1 ccx), 4 cores (1 ccx with SMT), and 2+2 cores (2 ccx's).

I'll provide the ini and save files.

Not doubting your comments, but do you have any evidence as to these cooling abilities ? Any benchmarks ?
 
The Reevan Okeanos gets most of its cooling capabilities from shipping with a very powerful (and noisy) fan. Put similar fans on something like the D15 and the Reevan unit loses its appeal.

I am generally confident that the D15 will outperform most/all HSFs on the market given stupid-fast fans (assuming similar/identical fans on the other HSFs), which is why I'm strapping two NH-A14 3000 rpm fans to mine. I'm a bit daft though. And my hearing sucks.

That chart does not include the latest Silver Arrow (IB-E Extreme), which has performance that should fall within 1-2c of the Phanteks and Noctua units.

Are there benchmarks for this?

If I was looking for performant but quiet fans + heatsink, I'd probably buy the Raijintek Tisis Core (no AM4 support listed yet, though) and use 3 x 140mm Akasa Apache, EK Vardar, or Gentle Typhoon (PWM) fans to it. If I wanted a very quiet out of box solution, I'd likely go with Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro.

Well, I see the 612 is not evaluated. Just take my word for it, its pretty effective. and quiet.

Benchmark. Two systems, both running E5-2683 v3 Xeons @ 100% load running WCG (distributed computing) and both running F@H using 2 video cards. One with a Corsair H100i @ 47c max on all 14 cores. One running the 612 v2@ 53c all 14 cores.

So 5c difference for $38 vs $110.

So I figure if you're going to use custom fans, you'll get similar performance out of either cooler given identical RPMs. The designs are very similar.

I am not a huge fan of buying expensive video cards because unlike processors, because video card performance increases rapidly unlike processor performance which seems to have hit a plateau.

I rather buy inexpensive video cards and upgrade more often.

Not bad performance for the price. Curious if it beats the Cryorig H7 (about same price, $34.99 on Newegg) at default fan speeds. I'm guessing they'd be close.
 
My only input (with no facts) is that the Cryorig has 6 heatpipes sticking out of the top, and the Coolermaster has 12.

Odds are with the coolermaster ??

Edit: and the Cryorig has silver or something heatpipes, while the coolermaster has copper ?

The heatsink is more massive overall, too, with the Coolmaster, so it probably does have better cooling performance.
 
I was looking at the 612 too before I settled the D15. The D15 won out in the end when I realized that I'm still using the hyper 212 I bought 5 years ago and better yet I'm still using Tuniq Tower I bought 9 years ago so the extra cost didn't seem like it was that much considering it will perform better every one of those 3000+ days I hope to use it.
 
Has anyone noticed that every X370 motherboard (except Biostar's) uses Intel l211-AT for LAN Chipset?

In Intel motherboards, Intel i211-AT is only used as second LAN Chipset. The primary LAN Chipset is Intel l218-V/l219-V which is just a pass-through.

This means that AMD's NIC (network interface controller) probably sucks.

You insult me because i don't agree with an OS as spyware? Microsoft spying on users is a fact not a conspiracy theory. In fact just 3 weeks ago the EU data privacy regulator has raised concerns about it.
You might be ok with Microsoft and Google sniffing your underwear but that doesn't mean that any rational human being should be ok with that.
Anyway this is offtopic and i don't quite see the upside in having a conversation with someone like you.
