Is the Hyper 212X even relevant these days? I'm sure I read somewhere that the Wraith cooler performed the same as one, or near enough as to make little difference.

there's basically nothing in it, including in noise levels, except the wraith cooler is lower profile and er, free.

So I would presume that unless AMD has gone backwards with their cooler design, any non-X Ryzen cpu should be adequately cooled.

As said earlier, Wraith is a good enough CPU cooler. However, we are not sure yet if it will come bundled with every Ryzen ir not.

If it is not, Hyper 212X is a low cost solution available in India.

I'm looking at the MSI Core Frozr L, which Newegg lists as being AM4 compatible in the specs, and should fit fine on an ITX mobo (hopefully without blocking RAM). Reviews look fairly good on other sites. Anyone have one?

Sexy looking cooler.. but everything i've ever bought from MSI has been tacky, underwhelming or had a very short lifespan... So i'd be reading a hundred reviews before I personally bought one.. But it don't arf' look good.

I think people are underestimating the non-x versions. However, if I have to pick one before benchmarks are in, I might go with the 1600x, because it's not that much more expensive, and could be filled with winners.

Near Perfect CPUs, Good Binning + All cores functioning, are rare and will be denoted as 1800x & maybe 1700x. Therefore, the well binning CPUs that aren't functional as 8 cores likely get demoted to the 1600x category. So, If I have to blindly put my hand in one of the pots, then this will be the one I will put my hand in.

OMG... Look at all those USB ports . I will be getting this mobo or the Sabertooth equivalent and the 1800x if I can get the 2 in a combo for $750.

If you want graphics performance, yes. Odds are you will keep overall latency low that way anyhow.

Got all the components except for the motherboard and the CPU:

getting a 1800X or whatever the top model is and will probably go with MSI Titanium or Asrock X370 Taichi.. but this will widely depend on availability on the day I can procure the CPU.

The rest of the build is Noctua D15 (AMD edition). 3200 C16 2x16Gb of DDR4 RAM. I got a few SSDs from other builds, also sticking with my rx480 until Vega is out. Seasonic Platinum 80 650 watt PSU.

I can see how its easy to underestimate the 6 core variants. They would be very cheap, very powerful and very close in performance to both the higher clocked Intel quads and the higher core count Zen chips. I can see builders selling truly high end gaming rigs for never before seen low prices.

I don't think motherboards need to be aesthetic. What matters is price and functionality. Electronics and circuits are beautiful on their own, no need to hide them.

Agreed. That one is done somewhat tastefully. I still do not get the overt/excessive cubism on those "shields" and the yellow neon light to the edge with lots random geometry.

Yeah I know what you mean. Just something inside of me wants to be OCD and have everything as a power of 2..

Yeah there's been so much price gouging across the board with shops in preparation for Ryzen, it really annoys me to be honest.

I really don't want to build my rig only to have to tear it apart for a board recall or something. Happened with the 2600k and it SUUUUUCKED.

I don't know about you, but I've seen unoptimized finite-difference PDE solvers in Fortran easily eat up 6-8 threads on an i7 3770.

Yes Fortran 90 is often faster than c or C++

Slower benchmarks like Molecular Dynamics scale good with open mp and gcc but fft is not easy.
I have tested with FX 8120.
