Anyone want to argue that athlons dont run cooler, faster, and use less power ? Because thats what it comes down to, we can argue all day what could of been done by both sides , but I cant fault AMD at all at the moment.

My genuine question is how much power saving is due to architectural choices vs circuit topologies vs process technologies.

At this very moment that is true...In about 2-3 weeks that wont be true anymore...Intel will have lost all of its advantages...multitasking, multimedia king, etc.....Dont cry to me about the 820 the non-existent no one has seen hide nor hair of it since it was mentioned chip.....

Where do they use SOI? Expensive defense applications, space applications and AMD processors

I don't see any disadvantages besides expense of course Intel is unwilling to shoulder...rather get users on back end too with high power bills.

They're talking about where power is a much MUCH higher priority over performance. (I wasn't aware about its lower noise performance, so sure maybe it's better for RF) BUT when designing microprocessors where there is a maximum power limit and otherwise performance is top priority, where does SOI fit in again?
