AMD FX 4100 Bulldozer Benchmarks

i looked through those benches and the FX 4100 still beat it in some and lost in others. your just talking Fanboyism now though
The i3 is faster than the 4100 in 15/24 benchmarks. The summary in the phoronix article says "this lower-end Sandy Bridge CPU blew AMD's FX-4100 out of the water".

Your previous posts about running your 4100 pc with a $10 psu with temps at a cool 61C are misleading. SB requires significantly less power than the FX but I still wouldn't recommend a $10 psu for an SB pc. Also the FX overclocks well but requires alot of power and generates alot of heat compared to SB. I don't know if AMD ever reported correct temps (from the internal diode). I am quite sure that AMD cpus start throtting at 70 or upper 70s depending upon the cpu family.

For a site that purports to be a Linux-centric site, I'm disappointed at what they don't do:
1) They should be using gcc 4.7 because gcc 4.5 has neither Bulldozer nor Sandy Bridge optimizations.
2) They don't state what compiler options they used, which means the build defaults to K8 optimizations, which, I suspect, is suboptimal for both Sandy Bridge and Bulldozer (in my tests with Povray, a K10h specific binary run on a K10h processor is 66% faster than a K8 binary run on the same K10h processor).

I can't decide if it's good or bad that it's 30% faster overall vs an old i3 dual core /w HT.

It's slower in integer though, which is probably why it's slower in games, that and the fact that most games are dual threaded and this is basically 4 cores vs 2+10%.

i3-540 @ 4.4GHz

GTX 470 @ 900/2075

still pretty good for a $109 chip versus a $120-$130 chip 😀

lol this chip is an old clarkdale, I got it and the board for $90 of f the for sale section here a few months back.

you can also buy cheap used AMD CPUs... an old PII X4 at 4GHz would be better than clarkdale for a lot of things.

I think on Cinebench the i3 530/540 and the FX 4100 at the same clock have basically the same score (at their max OC, around 4.5GHz)

to bad I can't overclock my SandyB i3 🙁

my oc can go higher than 4.5

It's just for gaming, I have the i5 if I ever need anything else.

Haswell might fix the i3 woes, but generally I agree without overclocking the SB/IB i3's lose a ton of value, if you could overclock an i3 SB/IB AMD's niche would shrink even more.

Plus if you could overclock i3s, a lot of the i5 sales might disappear. Lots of gamers would be happy with a 2c/4t processor at >4GHz.

yes it will be fine

okay...^_^...thanx....

hey n can u do some realtime gaming benches plz...i luv crysis2 can u post some images n results...if u hav it...even ghost recon future soldier would do....thanx...

and yeah i must say good job mate...shows the power of the so called underated fx 4100..keep the good work goin!!!

hmmmm dats not a prob plz don look for crysis 2 if u aint playin....okay well future soldier performance is brilliant...hmmmm i do agree with u about future soldier...a buggy game...but still i like the gameplay and nice graphics(better than expected,i had it on low..n ma mom says "r u watching movie")...anyways thanx man!!
