Actually the Fury X CARD is an overclockers dream for a stock item. Water cooling, stout power circuitry. He just failed to mention that you couldn't access to GPU to actually overclock to any significant degree.

I can imagine how wet the dreams of the overclocking crowd would be when they dream on a mediocre overclocking product.

The hideous, Joker-grinning irony of all this is that if some people had been less greedy, we could all have much more. Otellini, Ruiz, all sorts of corruption at the top. If they weren't so interested in lining their own pockets, if they didn't keep screwing with the markets (Intel) and their own internal finances (AMD under Ruiz), just imagine where we'd be now.

Everything is a slave to Mammon :( I am getting so tired of this world.

Just curious, what have you done to contribute to making the world of semiconductors/computing better?

I am oh so glad you asked that! :)

I work at a small, independent computer repair place in Wisconsin. We specialize in small, cheap, and low-power builds for SMB, SOHO, and home office. We have a number of elderly customers, as well as those with young children, some of whom are on very tight budgets.

We have much lower overhead and faster turn time (not to mention basic competence...) than, say, Geek Squad. And we've been able to get some of the "I only do email and facebook" grannies onto Linux machines, which they love because there is no virus or update nagging and it saves them $100+ on the build. Everything we build gets SSD storage for the primary drive, no exceptions.

My particular specialty is extremely small-form-factor builds on the hardware end, and making Linux look and act like other OSes on the software end. We've made a few dozen OS X, XP, and 7 mimics for people, all of whom are very happy with them. I am also good with virtualization, allowing people to migrate their old XP boxen to a VM on a Linux host and continue operations virtually unchanged.

I am level and honest with the customers, and I don't bullshit them or try to get them to buy what they do not need. I do remote support and in-person tutoring for low or no cost when possible. We deliver. We set up. We train.

We, in short, take the fear out of the computer. Many technical people do not understand that "using a computer" is only half tech; the other half is human. I get this; for whatever this is worth I am an extremely pronounced INFJ, which means values and relationships are the basis of how I work with other people. It's rare for us to be in tech, but when we get into it we do things most stereotypical geeks don't.

Any other rhetorical questions, wise guy? ():)

Avery's Computer Salvage is a great place, don't go alone.

Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. You used to promote AMD quite aggressively all across the Internet ;)
It was him specifically that told me fiji would demolish nvidia at 4k and even allow 4k laptop builds out that's how good Fiji would be at 4k....

Lol....

That's twice in the last week you've disrespected members (that I know of)..

Reported

Burpo, seriously...what the hell? You call that disrespectful, but I would bet every time Arach or Phynaz accuse someone of being an idiot fanboy you don't say anything.

I am beginning to question your judgment and neutrality here...and frankly getting a little tired of veiled, implied insults like Arach's snarky "and what have you done, Little Miss Azuma?"

A big failure in communication.
The excuses people make for fury x are astonishing at times.....

Name calling (Wiseguy) in particular is an insult, one that he has used twice this week referring to long time members (with more than 90 posts).

Honestly.... Seems like a massive over-reaction to me.

Having a smug personality is not against the forum rules. I don't think what he said would remotely qualify on the level of insult. Just saying -- the thought police work overtime already..... We really don't need any more people piling on it.

Did you miss the ():) ? It was obviously written tongue-in-cheek.

And how many posts people have written on this forum is irrelevant to the forum rules.

It's not a monopoly, it's a company with a dominant market position.
If a company can sell products at a massive loss and get all the big OEMs to blackball the competition that qualifies as monopoly.

What is left for the competitor that will keep the cash flow going that is needed for the R&D necessary for future competition? Scraps don't cover things, especially when you own a foundry as AMD did (to try to compete with Intel which also has a foundry).

AMD's management decisions weren't perfect (like overpaying for ATI according to some analyses) but the way Intel damaged AMD with OEMs and its compiler seems to reflect the existence of a monopoly. Making a company wither over time can be just as effective as having a 100% monopoly, in the long run. In fact, having some competition makes it easier to hide that status.

Since we're now seeing 2011 CPUs being sold into pretty much 2017 it seems quite clear that Intel has a monopoly for all but the low end of x86 (a market space that isn't profitable enough for the R&D needed for future competition) — and that's without being as aggressive as it was back when AMD was beating it technologically. The only way Zen will succeed is if Intel lets AMD stay alive so it can say it doesn't have a monopoly.

Burpo, as far as respect goes, you just lost a huge chunk of it with me.

If you don't also report everyone who accuses others of insanity vis-a-vis fanboyism (Phynaz, ShintaiDK, Arachnotron) this also makes what you did very hypocritical. Which in turn means you lose even more respect from me...and everyone else who can see this!

I am not a fan of forum drama but I have my standards and my pride. You owe me an apology, I think.

It seems that whenever a post is made with info regarding upcoming AMD products, there seems to be a horde of posters that come in to make sarcastic comments about how far behind they are, how little chance it has of succeeding, to cast doubt on it's success in general, etc. We get it, AMD has little market share and on the CPU side they have dropped the ball - but doesn't it get tiring making essentially the same smug posts over and over? It really starts to look like trolling rather than adding anything substantial to the discussion.

Anyway - it could very well be that AMD will launch Zen by Q4 2016, the more important aspect will be in what quantities. It's also too bad that we won't be seeing any Zen APU's until 2017, because to me that's the more exciting side (or potentially exciting side) of the product line.

I owe you an apology? Because you couldn't write a fact or make your point without PUPOSELY adding the word "wiseguy" to your posts?

Imagine that! The fact that you think it's ok to adding "wiseguy" to the end of your statements, proves you don't deserve my respect, nor ANY apology..

I have & will report ANY infractions I see, and have on Phynaz and others who instigate/insult and break the rules..

You can make your points without adding "wiseguy" or any other insult on the end.

Burpo, you are really starting to try my patience here. No one appointed you internet police, despite the avatar. And if you think "wiseguy" is insulting, be very glad you can't read my mind right about now. You are making yourself look very foolish, not to say petty and hypocritical, with your behavior.

Also: not that it should matter much, but I am a woman, even if I type like a standard Sheldon-type geek.

I can clearly see how well you work with. and respect other people in the above post. Talk about hypocritical?
The last sentence that didn't need to be there says it all.

Me thinks your fanboyism list is missing several from both sides of the partisan aisle. You'll find most of them in this thread.
