However, I did find out that eMMC 5.0 can be installed in a device that only supports eMMC 4.51:

An analogy would be installing a SATA 6 Gbps SSD in a motherboard that only has SATA 3 Gbps ports.
 
One of my ITX babies is an AMD 860K running at 4Ghz undervolted to hell.

So what I'm wondering about...how much of a difference would I see with a Bristol Ridge CPU running at 4 GHZ?

It's Excavator + DDR4 and new chipset....should I expect more than a 5% difference (avg)? I mean there's some OEM dirt out already...but that stuff was never good for benchmarking ANYTHING (imo)...but maybe it gives a general idea.

I like running my small machines on "low" end AMD CPUs and see how far I can push them in a balanced system. So I'd really love playing with one of them before Zen arrives...but I'm really hard trying to figure out how much of a difference I should expect 4GHZ vs 4GHZ...if it even clocks that high with the 65W envelope...but then again, probably unlocked, anyway.



TL'DR: How much difference would this CPU make to a Kaveri CPU if both are clocked at the same speeds.

1.21V @ 4Ghz. Scary how energy efficient this 28nm chip could have actually been....but then again, most boards notoriously overvolt those chips to hell @ like 1.45V @ 3.7-4 Ghz.

Well...a few questions remain, though. Will the diy consumer chips still only have half the cache and "how will the chipset affect it". Chipset alone has the potential to give it some extra oomph, no? But I guess if the OEM "next gen" Carrizo is already having the same halved cache...I have to expect it to stay. So I can answer that one myself.

That's pretty shockingly good actually. Of course it may just be a relatively high-leakage sample.

This is incredibly, its still on 28nm planar.

The new "Enthusiast" chipset will come with ZEN most probably.

Edit:

A10-9700E 35W TDP + A300 SFF motherboards will be perfect for Average home users at extremely low power and low prices. I believe this will replace current AM1 boards.
 
Has there been any information regarding how many PCI-e lanes the "Enthusiast" Zen will have?

I'm wondering if it'll be comparable to Intel's HEDT platform.

That is pretty darn good for the fact that this is still a 28nm product.

I mean Kaveris' first top dog' on FM2+ was 3.7 Ghz (4Ghz boost) + 720Mhz GPU speed @ 95W.



But at 2400 Mhz the GPU is still going to be bandwidth starved...isn't it? I hope the chips run stable with 3000 Mhz+.

Obviously those clocks cannot be sustained / had simulatenously at that TDP. Carrizo requires > 45W just for the CPU cores to hold them all constantly at 3.4GHz.
For the GPU you're looking at about the same amount in full load.

Also higher than 2400MHz MEMCLK won't happen unless you raise the BCLK, which is an awful idea on APUs.

Also in the slide they say up to 17% better ST perf in respect of Kaveri, yet the clocks are about the same..

In one slide they say that they are committed to the AM4 plateform for years, that would be great if they get back to AM3+ longevity wich mean that Zen+ will be compatible, this save costs on both sides, for them and for the consumer.

I have the impression that you didnt follow AMD these last months, at least not on a technical point of view, why are you stuck on useless extrapolation from Carrizo when it s obvious that it s not the same silicon..?.

Yes but with such a number they eventually got rid of some dreadfull latencies that handicapped XV, particularly on integer code, otherwise the improvement brought by Carrizo would had been better, Planet 3D made some tests and its obvious that it wasnt performing accordingly to the throughput tests.

So same socket, but different chipsets. Hmm. I wonder if B350 will even be able to handle Summit Ridge or Raven Ridge?

Also based on the clockspeeds people have been getting out of the 845, I'm not all that surprised that they're shipping Bristol Ridge at 3.8 GHz base clock. They've been doing a lot of work on 28nm planar to bring it up to snuff.

The thing will probably OC to 4.5-4.6 GHz or so.

So basically you claim that AMD has improved the performance per watt of Bristol Ridge (particularly with A12-9800) by > 60%?
62.6% improvement would be required to sustain the advertized clocks, even if the voltage would be identical as on Carrizo at 3400MHz CPU and 800MHz GPU frequencies.
Since they won't be (A12-9800 runs up to 1.5V VDD_C at default), I'm being extremely generous with these estimations 😀

45W for 3.4GHz (+11.8%) and 40W for 800MHz (+38.5%) GPU figures used.

Also on Carrizo and newer, the CPU and GPU are not the only domains which take their cut from the total TDP budget 😉

Since according to you I'm spreading "fud" (again), could you please prove that it is indeed the case? Or could you possibly prove that I have ever done such thing?
I'm sure that you will provide evidence that Bristol Ridge parts will sustain their advertized clocks at the default TDP, under maximum stress too? I'm not in a hurry so I can wait, as I'm sure you will deliver 🙂

Slide I didn't see posted yet. Seems like AMD's operating on a principle of having the integrated chipset provide a base, then expanding that base via additional low power options if requested. Wonder how the split will work with Summit Ridge and the unnamed chipset.
