mine says it is 300 watts, and my case is definatly brand new, though it's so cheap that you bend the hell out of the back grill when trying to get the PCI covers out. Does anyone know who makes the power supply's, mine is a powermax v2.03, but when I do a google search for that I don't get anything.

Mine worked fine, but whenever I tried to install any microsoft OS (98, 98SE, ME, 2K, XP) it would either crash at install or give me blue screens like mad. I called up and said it was a defective board, and they wanted me to call up Soyo and deal with them. As a last resort, I got really bored from staring at a unworking PC and started pushing all of the chips on the board to make sure they were in or soldered, when I pushed a chip (i forget what it said on it, I'm at work so I cant check, and NO it wasnt ram or anything like that) and it clicked into place. I was amazed, and i started it up, and sure enough win 2K installed perfectly. for the heck of it I installed ME to see if it would install, and it did. If you're having the same problems, ya might wanna try it before dealing with Outpost's crappy return policy. Just thought id share my stunning results (maybe i should try doing this on all of my broken PC stuff?)

I think you mean MaxPower v2.03 ... at least that's what mine says. Not surprisingly, it's made in China like the case and comes from 2TheMax

Dag it!!! Those symptons of Blue screens/erros when installing Windows OS's was happening with my sister, too, although up until now, I have only tried Win 98/98se. They kept giving SUWin errors and DCPI. Microsoft's web site said these occur when the system has faulty memory, cache, etc, so i figured it was because the system was fairly new and used DDR ram. Thought maybe it was due to new technology and an old OS, so I convinced my sister that the XP 1700+ must be too new & too fast for Win 98, so she went out and purchased XP Home. I haven't had a chance to try installing it yet, but I'm gonna head over there shortly and see what happens when I check the chips, first. We opened XP, so we probably will not be able to return it to the store if it is a chip seating problem, unfortunately, so maybe I'll convince her to just go ahead and upgrade anyway.

The case also gave me a problem with the crappy slot plates. I bent the hell out of a couple of those slots trying to get them off, but the last couple seemed to pop off easier. I started at the top, and then worked to the bottom of the plate and the bending was minimal.

The case IS noisy, but my nephew said he doesn't think there is much difference between thsi case and his old case as far as noise is concerned. We added a slot fan, which didn't make it much louder. As soon as I get the system up and running, I'll be able to check the temps better. So far, just from trying to install, the system was running in the mid-40s, i think.

I received mine yesterday, wednesday. I ordered it monday night... didn't expect it so soon! The power supply is 300W and everything looks to be in order... I'm still waiting on my RAM order from Mushkin though--so I can't comment on the heating/video problems. I have a gforce2 mx, and if anyone would like me to I can post the results (with win2k), if anyone else has a similar card and is worried about this.

thanks, CiscoGuy, for a great deal!:)

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's back to Outpost it goes...

Went back to my sister's to check the chips. The only chips that can be removed (ie. not mounted on the board by machine/robot) is the BIOS chip, and of course, the RAM and Processor. The BIOS was fine. The memory and processor seemed okay, so I went to install XP. Blue screen heaven. So...I had my nephew call Outpost and tell them that for the past 3 days, we tried 98, 98se, (which we previously owned) and now even went out and purchased Windows XP, but each OS fails during install. The rep suggested that we could either return the system for exchange OR we could call SOYO and get tech support from them. Since this is obviously a hardware problem (even setting the BIOS to fail-safe resulted in failures), and I swapped the video card with another, the only other possibility would be the ram. Since it is a 512MB Crucial stick that was just purchased for this system, the odds are probably very low that the memory is the problem.

So...we'll see what happens when the new system arrives.

I would suggest those having problems installing the OS to try a basic video card. This seems to be the common thread in the problems I have been reading about.

My OS installed without any problems. I used a Matrox G400 DH ( a prior Newegg refurb)

XP up and running fine, no problems during install. GeForce2 from newegg should be here in a few minutes, but I don't know if it's a coincidence that I did the install using a 1996-dated 4MB PCI Diamond MM video card?

Mine went together with no problems, except onboard sound. Only wanted to see W95/NT4 sound drivers. Wouldn't work with W98 drivers. Wonder if these are excess 'commercial' machines. BTW I put an 80mm case fan in front, and a PCI slot fan below Video card (nVidia GeForce2 MX200). Running 107F during 10-cycle Sandra Burn-in, according to MBM5. Changed CPU fan to Thermaltake DragonOrb 3 (7k) and lowered closed case temps to 97F during same Burn-in. Added 60mm case fan to back, adjacent to CPU and lowered temp to 93F. Changed CPU fan back to OEM fan, and now running 98F and tops out at 102F during Sandra.

I tried 2 video cards: the ATI Radeon VE she just bought specifically for this system, and an AGP 8MB (SIS 6326, or something like that) card that she had from her Celeron 333 system. Both resulted in blue screens in XP.

Can someone PM me a pic of this rig? I noticed the case is differnet than listed on their site (as it says it only comes with 3 5.25" ext bays and the pic shows a case with 4).

Tx in advance...

My sister's case had 4 5.25" bays. I think she had room for 4 3.5" devices, as well. A pre-designated spot for the floppy, 1 or 2 blank 3.5 external bay, and 2 internal bays, I think, so I guess that makes 5 3.5" devices. Can't remember exactly.

Stupid junk would not boot from the NTFS partition, but boots from FAT32. I blame chipset... This is unacceptable. I ordered VIA based motherboard from Newegg (Epox). If Epox works I either ebay or return this thing.

Hey all,

I got in on this deal too....thanks! Not too many problems so far. The GF3Ti card seemed to work right out of the box on the machine. Unfortunately, FileNavigator (my favorite software lol) seems to make the machine act funny to the point of reboot. Don't really understand that. Same OS and such that I had before. Wouldn't be as big of a deal if my PC wasn't like connected to that network 24/7. ;)

Only other issue I've had was a massive keyboard crash. Kinda knocked it off my desk last night and really broke the space bar key. It's amazing how irritating that can be.

Case came in fine shape, but I understand why people are saying its on the cheap side. No dents in mine though. Shipping was quite speedy as well! Regular ground got it here in about 36 hours. Not too shabby! :)

Thanks!

Okay, I'm starting to get homicidal here.... Okay, it's not THAT bad, but this thing is really starting to irritate me severely.

Here's the deal: Removed system board devices from Win 98 on a Celeron 333 system, shutdown, and installed drives & other hardware into new system. Booted system up, but 98 kept having errors. Could not even boot to safe mode, so I decided to just wipe almost everything from the windows directory (left c:\windows\options\cabs, windows\command, and a AOL Instant messenger folder) and reinstall from scratch. System will not install 98 or 98se. Each time, I get various errors such as SUWin caused GPF in User.exe (or similar) Decided that system might be too fast/too new for 98 to recognize properly and advised my sister purchase XP. She went out and purchased XP home. Attempt to load XP via bootable CD OR by booting to a DOS prompt and running from a command prompt. Either way: Stop screens or error. If it just errors, i get "File setupdd.sys could not be loaded" and if it is a BSOD, the main line is "Page_Fault_In_Nonpaged_Area" with the typical raw dump, which also mentions ntfs.??? (not sure extension)

I have tried 3 different video cards: ATI Radeon 32MB DDR VE (AGP), SIS 8MB 6326 (AGP), and a Matrox 4MB PCI. Different cards make no difference. I have setup the BIOS with 'fail-safe' values as well as manually setting values myself. I initially thought this was a system board problem, so we got a 2nd system shipped. The 2nd system is doing the exact same thing. I can boot cleanly to a DOS prompt all day long, but if I try to load an OS, it fails.

512MB DDR - Crucial (single chip, in slot closest to CPU)
30GB ATA100 hard drive
4GB ATA33 hard drive (primary slave)
32x12x40 Lite-On CD-RW (Sec. Master)
16x Lite-On DVD (sec. slave)

I have tried removing everything but the 30GB drive, the CDRW, video card, and RAM, but system still gives same errors. Any ideas? I'm about to recommend my sister ship this junk back (both the original that was thought defective) as well as the 2nd system and cut her losses. I can find her another 'Hot deal' on a better case (or just have her buy a new P/S for her old case) and find a better board. I feel bad because i recommended this system to her, but I honestly don't know what else to do to get this running!

Please help!

Alton:

I had a few problems with my BIOS and video cards at first, but now everything is working great on mine (knock).

I booted the machine first with a Win98 boot disk -- Fdisked the hard drive and then formatted it. Then I booted the system by the CDROM with my Win2000 CD. Everything from there went well. From your description, it sounds like you need to wipe out your hard drive first before installing XP. Good luck!:p

Hey thanks guaraguao! It looks like a nice case! I'm surprised that it has the 4 bays... I must have read it wrong...

from what you said, I think you didn't follow the normal procedure of installing windows XP. And what you did sounds like unreasonable to me. My suggestion is to back up your current contents on the HDD. The soyo MB nicely came with the backup software "Ghost", It should be easy for you.

Then you can really start with "install from scratch" by formatting the HDD.
Good luck. I am using this MB, it should be no problem.
