from what you said, I think you didn't follow the normal procedure of installing windows XP. And what you did sounds like unreasonable to me. My suggestion is to back up your current contents on the HDD. The soyo MB nicely came with the backup software "Ghost", It should be easy for you.
Then you can really start with "install from scratch" by formatting the HDD.
Good luck. I am using this MB, it should be no problem.
<< Okay, I'm starting to get homicidal here.... Okay, it's not THAT bad, but this thing is really starting to irritate me severely.
Here's the deal: Removed system board devices from Win 98 on a Celeron 333 system, shutdown, and installed drives & other hardware into new system. Booted system up, but 98 kept having errors. Could not even boot to safe mode, so I decided to just wipe almost everything from the windows directory (left c:\windows\options\cabs, windows\command, and a AOL Instant messenger folder) and reinstall from scratch. System will not install 98 or 98se. Each time, I get various errors such as SUWin caused GPF in User.exe (or similar) Decided that system might be too fast/too new for 98 to recognize properly and advised my sister purchase XP. She went out and purchased XP home. Attempt to load XP via bootable CD OR by booting to a DOS prompt and running from a command prompt. Either way: Stop screens or error. If it just errors, i get "File setupdd.sys could not be loaded" and if it is a BSOD, the main line is "Page_Fault_In_Nonpaged_Area" with the typical raw dump, which also mentions ntfs.??? (not sure extension)
I have tried 3 different video cards: ATI Radeon 32MB DDR VE (AGP), SIS 8MB 6326 (AGP), and a Matrox 4MB PCI. Different cards make no difference. I have setup the BIOS with 'fail-safe' values as well as manually setting values myself. I initially thought this was a system board problem, so we got a 2nd system shipped. The 2nd system is doing the exact same thing. I can boot cleanly to a DOS prompt all day long, but if I try to load an OS, it fails.
512MB DDR - Crucial (single chip, in slot closest to CPU)
30GB ATA100 hard drive
4GB ATA33 hard drive (primary slave)
32x12x40 Lite-On CD-RW (Sec. Master)
16x Lite-On DVD (sec. slave)
I have tried removing everything but the 30GB drive, the CDRW, video card, and RAM, but system still gives same errors. Any ideas? I'm about to recommend my sister ship this junk back (both the original that was thought defective) as well as the 2nd system and cut her losses. I can find her another 'Hot deal' on a better case (or just have her buy a new P/S for her old case) and find a better board. I feel bad because i recommended this system to her, but I honestly don't know what else to do to get this running!
