Amazing Homeschooling success story

This is pretty damned impressive.

Alabama Homeschooling Family Sends Six of Ten Children to College By Age Twelve

When asked what she is doing that her friends are not, 10-year-old Katrinnah replied, “I guess I’m staying home instead of going to school, and I’m doing it faster.”

She hopes to take her college entrance exams next year.

Her 12-year-old brother, Seth, attends Faulkner University and is studying the Middle Ages.

“He’s got the highest average in the class,” assistant professor Grover Plunkett told NBC reporter Bob Dotson.

Seth’s brother, Keith, 14, is a senior at Faulkner University and is a music major.

The four oldest Harding children have all graduated from college and are pursuing lucrative careers.

Heath Harding, now 17, was the youngest student ever to graduate from Huntingdon College. He graduated at 15 went on to obtain a master’s degree in computer science.

His sister Serennah, 22, is the youngest female physician in the U.S., and is pursuing a career as a Navy doctor.

Rosannah, 20, has been working as an architect since she was 18. She credits homeschooling and studying on her own for her success.

“We just [studied] at our own pace,” she told reporters. “Rather than a class of 30, we were a class of three. So, we each did it at our own pace and we just accelerated.”

His sister Hannah, 25, is now designing spacecraft as a mechanical engineer and holds a masters degrees in math and computer science.

That is damned impressive.

I'd wager that family has some good genetics, and it was the combination of those and being in an environment where those genes were allowed to bloom rather than being held back, which accounts for this result.

I'd be curious to know more about what materials the parents made available.

I got a lot of flack for being homeschooled. While not being anything like the above people, I still managed to graduate with my Master's in Computer Science by 23, set a new record at work that hasn't been broken in 4 years, and have the fastest growth in the company 2 years running (and I've been here 2 years).

Just like public schooling, the value of education comes down to your parents, and yourself. People can learn by using sticks in the dirt, its work ethic that's the problem.

People who want to learn will find a way.

Then there are people who do not want to learn, can not be forced to learn, and will reject any kind of education.

As for the opening post, that is an amazing story.

maaan those kids must have had some boring ass childhoods... I would not trade all the fun I had and am still having in college for fast tracking my education. They all either missed out on the greatest years of their lives or are about to.

Very impressive.

I only hope they don't show up on their first day of biology class in college and tell the professor that they don't believe in evolution since so much homeschooling is religiously based.

I was homeschooled for two years when I was a youngin. For the right individuals it can be an optimal education. You get parental involvement, you get directed and focused educational materials and you get nearly unlimited time per subject. The only limitation is how hard the parents want to work you.

.... and as they become millionaires and pay their college debts off quickly, they'll have the money to do whatever the F they want while you're making your 71st loan payment.

I would've traded the mindless sex and endless drinking to start a career early in life 🙂

I think their professors would have agreed with them as they all go to/went to small private christian colleges that put religion first and education somewhere after that.

I work to live not live to work, you can have your career and I'll have my fun.

when are they going to have time to do "whatever the F they want"? their youth are gone, kids are going to take away their late 20's, 30's and 40's... then what? retire early and do old people shit for the rest of their lives?

edit: "mindless sex"? I'm sorry but if you don't find sex satisfying then you do not know how to operate your penis in conjunction with a vagina (or whatever the hell you feel like sticking it in).

The older ones seem to be doing well and got degrees that could make them money.

The younger ones? Studying the Middle Ages? Music? What went wrong?

Lol. Mindless sex meaning sex with a new vagina everyday, sometimes 2 or 3 new vaginas. It was very satisfying, and it was absolutely mindless, because I didn't give a fuck about who they were, other than relatively hot.

I didn't say anything about being a work slave. I said I'd rather have a meaningful career earlier in life. I have kids that have taken nothing from me, except for sleep I guess. To each their own brah.

sure, but I take offense to the OP calling it a success story. imo it's a cautionary tale.

also, your kids have most certainly taken freedom from you (I doubt you're a bad parent). Once you have kids you'll have to schedule pretty much your whole existence around them, sure you'll get a bit of "me time" and maybe a weekend pass once in a while when you dump them on relatives or a sitter but at the end of the day they're still going to be running your life unless you want to be a shitty parent.

Not everybody has the same view of life as you. Perhaps they love the careers they are building. Perhaps they enjoy learning instead of playing.

And why wouldnt this be considered a success story? Would you rather read about how these children withered away in 12 years of public school?

again, sure...

but in order say someone has succeeded you need to clearly define the parameters of success, something you CANNOT do objectively in this case.
which is my whole point, I would not call this a success story, subjectively.

I think most would qualify graduating from college in the teenage years as a success story.

then tell them that it would rob them of their childhood and youth, you have to be a bitter old fart or friendless loser to truly want to trade the most carefree and fun years of your life to add a few extra years of working to your curriculum vitae.

You sound bitter, did you get robbed of a childhood?

Anyways, if you read the article it sounds like they werent held back doing things outside of home schooling.
