Hate Springsteen. Don't know why people categorize him as "american"
Thats funny as I think that album was one of his worse. IMO he whored himself out as most 70s groups did in the 80s.Because he pretty much nailed the blue-collar, working class style of rock music. Born in the USA was the first tape I ever bought, and it pretty much epitomizes that genre. There's not a weak track on that whole album.
Plus everyone in the E Street Band was just ridiculously talented.
He and Mellencamp's music drives me nuts now.. used to love it back in the 80's.. but it was played to DEATH then and it still is now. I cannot go for a drive home or to work and at one point in the trip one of my 6 preset stations play one of their songs.
Which, in case you missed it, is also included in the third item he mentioned: Bill of Rights

No, because he's terrible.

My name is Joe Roberts I work for the state
I'm a sergeant out of Perrineville barracks number 8
I always done an honest job as honest as I could
I got a brother named Franky and Franky ain't no good
Now ever since we was young kids it's been the same come down
I get a call over the radio Franky's in trouble downtown
Well if it was any other man, I'd put him straight away
But when it's your brother sometimes you look the other way
Lol, I don't think he's terrible. There's some talent, and there's a voice in his writing. Joni Mitchell was once asked about him, and she damned him with faint praise, likening him to a competent carpenter who constructed sturdy songs.
But the near hysterical hype he engendered was overbearing.
I did really like Nebraska, his acoustic album. It was my way into him, fending off the fanboy fever of some of my buddies. One of my friend's older brother stood us to tickets to see him at the Vet in Philly. At the end, he got right up in my face all aggressive like (effing NJ guido -- think Jersey shore w/o the metrosexual parts) and said, "Well?"
I paused and measured my response and said something like, "It was ok." I swear I thought he wanted to fight me then and there, and just barely held off.
But, listen to this song from Nebraska and tell me it's not excellent in its own way.
I don't like him or MLB, and don't watch football. I do love hockey. I guess that makes me....Canadian?
tell me you can't listen to "Tunnel of Love" without snickering.
