Am I the only one who thinks Star Wars suck?

I guess i don't have the hate for these films that most of you seem to have. I haven't seen all of them yet but & while certainly not "OMG these are the greatest movies ever" i find them overall watchable & mostly enjoyable for what they are.
Same here. I watch movies and enjoy most of them.

In fact, the only sci-fi movie I ever really watched where the costumes really bothered me was Sean Connery's threads in Zardoz. 😛

Hecka wack yo!

I doubt anyone knows what the fuck you are talking about, but that's not a requirement for posting here so don't let that stop you!
Don't appear so butthurt... at least hide it a little bit with a legitimate response. If that was it, I'm sorry you don't understand what masks and costumes are. That tells me you've consumed too much of exactly what I'm referring to already. One-eye aliens who speak perfect English - seems legit.

Not that I want to defend Star Wars (see my previous comments) but that seems an odd objection. Surely acting is all about 'playing dress-up', in the final analysis? Do you feel the same about historical drama?
Actually yes. My wife loves that Elizabethan & Victorian era stuff and I simply walk out of the room. GoT included. Easy example of dress-up. Now I ask - is tv drama all like that?

I'm with you. I spent a bunch of money on it, got two sets of most of the films and still have them taking up space on my shelves and confess to never thinking any of them are/were great. In fact, yeah, I think "sucks" works for a single word. It's not sci-fi. I got into sci-fi as my first love in reading. So I know what sci-fi is. I take that yardstick and apply it to so called sci-fi movies. Many of those are not sci-fi but have redeeming qualities, say plot, action, acting. But SW? Do not ring any of those bells for me. I haven't watched one in probably... well, I'll check my data... The last I watched was SW3: The Revenge of the Sith in March 2008, over 12 years ago.
I have always read a lot of science fiction, and perhaps that affects my expectations for movies of this genre. Most have been disappointments to me. Star Wars in all its gyrations included.
Exactly.

One of the side effects of intelligence is the need to explore your imagination and ideas in order to grow and be creative. I guess that isn't an issue for you.

I thought that the Mandalorian was good, anyway. I like to think of that show as proof that humanity can still make new Star Wars content that's as good as episodes 4,5,6 if they have the right person directing it.

I've decided long ago that type of entertainment wasn't for me - you're just pulling shit out of your ass at this point. Side effects of intelligence? Stop sharing your shit.

You just posted about the movie Alien in the Hume thread. A movie about imaginary spacecraft, animatronic aliens, people in costumes, etc. A great movie btw, but you are completely full of crap. For whatever reason you want to sound like you aren't a nerd, despite the fact that you have 50k posts on a tech forum.

What are you even going on about? I stated I watched Dark Angel. That's sci-fi. Alien had nobody in a costume other than the actual monster. Also sci-fi. I never said I disliked sci-fi. You're the one trying too hard. And clearly not understanding. What was it you said about intelligence?

Yes, but _what_ 'type of entertainment'? That's what's not clear. So far it seems to hinge entirely on the style of clothing. So Shakespeare performances in moderrn dress are OK, but if it's a traditional production it all falls apart for you? Each to their own, but that just seems strange to me.

I've named them. What this is - is people picking it apart because they are offended, not because they care about the difference.

Um, everyone in Alien was 'in costume'. They were clothed as a blue-collar space cargo-ship crew.

Not offended, just puzzled as your stated preference is so poorly-defined. As it stands it sounds like an odd kind of phobia. "Fear of old clothes' or something.

You're telling me there's no difference between Chewbacca and Ripley?

You're just being dense if you're telling me she was in a costume.

No, they are different characters. But you haven't definined what the significant part of that difference is for you. Are you saying it's how much of the actor's body that a costume covers? Though you've already said you don't like historical clothing either. (What's the time cut-off there? Is something set in the 1970's acceptable? The 1950's?). It just seems an eccentric basis for a preference, is all, and rather arbitrary.

You're calling _me_ dense and you don't understand that the actors in Alien were in costume? You realise they employ people specifically for that, right? They don't just leave the actors in whatever clothes they happened to be wearing when they turned up at the studio.

That is idiotic, Luke would be the equivalent of Ripley. You are just being obtuse for the sake of it.

WTF is wrong with your brain? That wasn't the point of my statement. There is no Chewbacca walking around like just another one of the humans in Alien. Much more realistic and plausible. Dark Angel - same thing before it jumped the shark with freaks in masks with full command of the English language. That's the difference. Your comprehension of this is idiotic. Let's see what else you can use to pick this apart...

"All actors are in costume"... that's what you get from my obvious description of Chewbacca vs. Ripley. Ok... dense. So the part where I mentioned masks has no bearing either I suppose.

Are you saying it's how much of the actor's body that a costume covers?

So an actor like Julia Roberts walking around in her business attire as Erin Brokovich is in a "costume"... lol ok. You can choose to be thick-headed, but I also choose not to have to explain further. Fricken Chewbacca vs. an actual human on-screen is self-explanatory as far as costumes go - that explains my position plenty. If I mention Gollum (I had to look up his name), will it confuse you more?

<<<---- haven't watch a complete Stars War movie yet, just bits and pieces here and there.

But I do like the cartoon version of SW. It was interesting.

The first two movies are ok, but the rest of them are terrible. Always found them poorly written and childish. To each their own though.
