do they ever say fuck you or anything like that?

They usually don't know English very well. Even when they do, no they don't say anything.

If there isn't a delivery charge already then I give them a buck or two. Or if it's raining or the like I'll tip even with a delivery charge. Meh.

Do you ever get the same delivery guy? If so, have you ever gotten any surprise sauce that was yellow, bubbly or brown?

Usually not the same guy, no.

It's not my business whether they keep the delivery charge or not, and I honestly don't care if they don't get it. Tough luck.

Man, you're a douchebag.

Can you tell us all what it's like to be "that guy"?

Cry me a river, Sally.

I always tip the pizza guy well. They're always super nice to me, so why wouldn't I? Plus they are bringing delicious pizza to go with my delicious beer!!!

I once tipped a pizza guy $8. I had never ordered pizza before, so I had no idea what was appropriate. He was grateful. Now I know why.

Place I worked at we didnt get the delivery charge. Sometimes with particularly bad tippers they would just raise the delivery charge for that person and give that to us. For real pain in the asses we'd just say we cant deliver to them. We'd write notes in a memo section that didnt print out with the ticket to help other drivers know the good people from the bad.

My rule of thumb when getting delivery now is atleast give them the equivalent of a gallon of gas plus add extra for how quickly they got there, weather conditions, how far they might have driven... They are usually saving me time so its worth it. Seriously, I dont see why people try to go against the system with people that are handling your food. If you dont like it then get off your ass and get it or make it yourself.

I don't really like tipping huge amounts for pizza TBH.

That said, I don't think i've ever given less than 10%

Issue i have is that all they have to do is deliver a semi-warm overpriced pizza...

Obviously, i know i'd feel very differently if i was doing pizza deliveries, but i'm just saying...

For a waitress/waiter at a restaurant, i have a very different take.

S/he has to be smiling & happy & friendly even when it's a crappy day, & has to be attentive & serving all day long, which is a hell of a lot harder act to do.

For tipping at a restaurant, i don't do less than 15% unless the service was crap.

Last place i was out at, i did 28% & felt it was very worth it, as i got fantastic service & would love to again...heck would even ask for the same waitress if possible.

I made a thread along the lines of this, but it had to do with "if you are a constant complainer/bad tipper, does the delivery place make note of it somehow on your account?"

Many responded that they do and if you're first on the list to be delivered to, they don't rush to get to your order to you.

Oh man, I had Papa Johns managers emailing me pissed off about the pics that I sent to them and that I complained to the main Papa Johns site.

The pics were the same ones I posted for you guys last year. I ordered 2x Bananna Peppers (w/ham, tomato & xtra cheese) and you could'nt see anything but Bannana Peppers. I mean the whole pizza was covered in them.

Was I wrong?

You were more than fine in your tip. Next time you answer the door, though, wear pants, k?

This reminds me, next time I see that, I'm just going to let them know exactly how much I plan to tip.

The pizza shop I'm most familiar with: if the driver uses the restaurant's car (preferred by the restaurant for insurance reasons) then the restaurant gets the delivery fee; driver keeps the tip, and driver is paid the same rate as the guys inside. i.e. the delivery guy gets to take a ride in an air conditioned car while everyone inside busts their asses, making the same pay, and gets to keep any tips.

If a person takes their own car, they keep the entire $2 delivery charge. I don't know about some of you, but it costs more than you think to deliver. Gas isn't the only cost to driving a vehicle, there's a lot of maintenance. And city miles are a lot meaner on cars than highway miles.

The $2 per delivery charge was pretty simple to calculate for the restaurant: the owner is really picky about some things (and not picky about other things), and kept really good records on the deliveries. He took the cost of a vehicle & all the expenses over 5 years (gas, oil changes, other maintenance, insurance), and divided by the number of deliveries over those 5 years. And, in order to get a decent rate on insurance, all the drivers have to be at least 25 years old; high school students do not get hired to deliver. $2 per delivery was pretty close to the actual costs. (It was actually a little above $2) And, of course, they don't charge a delivery fee on large orders.

Wow! An intelligent, dispassionate, and highly learned answer . . . in ATOT!

They get a couple bucks per delivery on top of their hourly wage. Fuck them. If he doesn't like how much he gets paid, he should get another job. You aren't obliged to tip him anything. He should be happy with any sort of tip at all and 20% is damn good for someone who's already getting paid to do a job.

how much of the delivery fee does the drive see?
$10 minimum order isnt his fault either..it isnt like a restaurant.

Pizza places usually have a 1 or 2 mile radius limit. $2.00 in gas? How completely ignorant

Lets say gas is $4.00/gallon. You're saying it takes half a gallon to deliver a pizza? I've never seen a pizza delivery guy roll up in an alcohol-burning funnycar.

Nationwide amongst all independent pizza places?

Yeah.

Just make up unsupported, all inclusive facts, why don't you, like a complete red-faced idiot.

Name the ONE PLACE that you know does this, and then please try and document ten other shops, nationwide, troll.

Give it your best shot.

Your alternative is to man up and admit you're lazy, loose with facts, and completely full of shit.

Edited for Tori Spelling.

Did I say all? Did I say nationally? Did I mention independant chains versus ... whatever non-independant chains are called? Did I quantify it in any way at all?

Of course not.

Stop trolling, Perknose.

Every single pizza delivery company in my area has driver-owned vehicles and they all get the $2 delivery fee per order. If they take 5 pies out to 5 deliveries, that's $10 for a single trip costing them less than $1 in gas.

Prove me wrong.

Well different places do things differently I guess. But I do know here all delivery people start out making $8 an hour, so isn't like they are in the poor house, also they can deduct their cost of gas and such.

Did you ask for change back? If you handed him a ten and a five, a dirty look with the dollar he handed back shouldn't be unexpected.

Ok, troll, "every single place" in your area YOU CLAIM this is true for, and PROOF their drivers pocket this charge, or stfu and crawl away, TROLL.

Either do it, prove your lying little red-faced claim with verifiable facts, or STFU.

Edit: Are we talking about ONE place, blowhard, or, maybe TWO places. Provide proof, provide facts, or walk.

It's pretty evident that many, many, people do not understand how the real world works. I knew a lot (15-20?) delivery drivers during school and I'd say the vast, vast majority of them made minimum wage. The delivery fee DID NOT get paid out to the driver, it was kept by the restaurant as a fee for preparing/packaging for delivery. Most of the drivers used their own vehicles which costs more than just gas (some decent wear and tear on brake pads). It seems like a lot of ATOT believes that pizza delivery guys are making $14-$20 an hour if they're being tipped on top of the "delivery fee." Are you guys serious? 28-40k a year to be a pizza delivery guy? I think not.

If you don't tip, they're making minimum wage. Also, enough with the "well then just get a better job" non-sense, not everyone is afforded the same opportunities, and it's pretty damned easy to sit around, get food delivered, and act condescending. Tip your delivery drivers, or get your own damned food. It's amazing how cheap some people can be.
