How does it impact you? Why do you care what individuals do with their money?

I don't WHAT they do with their money, I just care how much they make because it could be used to make our lives better instead of feed their insatiable greed.

You're right. It sure would be nice if I could be unemployed and lazy and still get housing, food and medical care. Why would anyone work?

I'd rather have greedy people make money then donate some to charity than have a bunch of government programs that suck the money from the people that actually work to make it and distribute all of it to the poor lazy mofos that just leech.

Problem with athletes is if you think about it, if they don't make the money,
the owner makes it. The money is going to someone. When you get down
to it, its just a reverse of what it used to be, with players being screwed
over and owners making large profits. Now the players make alot more
money, and some owners are losing money.

You wish you could have a nice median, where the owner makes good money,
the player makes money, and the fan is treated well.
That will never happen
though, probably one of the downsides of unions.

Thank you for understanding the whole point of my post. Instead of an athlete or owner making billions, that money could be used to lower the price of tickets (free viewing?) food, etc.

If people were unwilling to pay prices as they are now the prices would drop. Simple supply and demand.

The fact that there's even a market for scalping means that the tickets are underpriced from the box office.

Everyone could benefit from a few economics classes - I'd say your problem is lack of knowledge, not socialism.

I have to conclude that you have not tasted enough of the real world to understand why you are so wrong. This is not a utopia. We are not robots. Everyone is motivated by rewards. Whether the rewards are monetary or emotional, its all the same.

If $300,000 / year is not enough to help your children develop into contributing citizens of society, then that is a problem. If you want to make endless amounts of money so your offspring can shop all day or do whatever (Paris Hilton) that is a detriment to society.
Here's an example with your arbitrary $300k:
A person makes $300,000 a year and has 5 kids.
He also has to pay child support on 3 kids from a previous marriage.
He also has to pay med school bills.
He also has to pay a mortgage.
He also is putting 3 of his kids through med. school, so they don't have to live with the burden of debt right out of college.
Two of his daughters are about to get married and they both want nice weddings.
He also has 3 car payments. and insurance on everyone.
He also is a doctor of the finest quality, the kind that earn $300k a year. This is extremely stressful.

Now, wouldn't his patients be better off if he didn't have to worry about financial stress?
Wouldn't he be more focused on his work if he is making $600k a year?
Wouldn't he feel obligated to work harder knowing that he is paid twice what another doctor is paid?

What you forget is that much of that "extra" money is invested back into the market.

that is going to be a bloody affair. it will also change the country completely. i really am generally opposed to the 'don't like it? leave' attitude, but i can guarantee you if the playing field were leveled there would probably be none of the things you love (if any) leftover either.

To get better housing? Remember, you can make between $0 per year, and $300,000 per year.

Communism will never work in large groups. Even heavy socialism , such as Sweden, will never work in America with its heavy immigration. There will be too much leeching.

You mention intrinsic motivation to become a doctor or whatever. Granted having such motivations is always a plus, I dont think it is necessary. Sometimes external motivators, such as money and wealth, work just as well in producing competent doctors that tend to our needs. You say that buying shiny things doesn't make you happy. But I would say you will be a lot sadder if every material possession you own now was suddenly taken away.

Either way, I though having fixed salaries etc was considered Communism instead of Socialism.

I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying pay janitors $20,000 / year and pay doctors $300,000. Just don't pay entertainers and stuff $69 million for a movie when they much money could be used to help make the U.S. a better country.

See that is your problem right there. WHO is paying these entertainers this money? Its private business NOT the government. If a PRIVATE company wants to pay somebody a huge amount of money its THEIR business, not the Governments. Your basing your ideas are not socialist, they are rooted in communist beliefs that the government controls the flow of money.

Exactly... to bring it closer to home, if there are no rich people that put money into your bank, they are not going to give you a loan.

Who cares about better housing? You can work "under the table" and leech off the government to get a roof over your head, 3 squares a day, and free medical treatment, all the while storing your ill-gotten gains for a cushy vacation chalet in Belize.

Just wondering. Have you taken any econ classes? If you have you should speak with your old professors and ask if this is economically feasible and will not create bad sideeffects such as lack of stimulus in the economy and less venture capital to promote new technologies and businesses.

I don't need a class, I understand what captialism is, I'm just presenting the idea the world would be a better place if people weren't making billions of dollars while that money could be going into making improvements.

I'm not saying take more money away from the 95% of people who make less than a million dollars a year, I'm saying "stick it to the rich".

You dont need a class? I think that is a very arrogant thing to say. If you took Econ you would realize capitalism is a lot more complex than you think. And redistributing the wealth could very well put the US economy into a coma.

Yes you are a socialist/communist...

Keep in mind that the average professional athlete career is only 5-15 years

I would opt that there be a salary cap on lawyers though, somewhere in the neighborhood of minimum wage

Redhotjrm, and the rest of you communists (you're not a socialist, you're a communist),

I have one wish for you:

I wish that one day you decide to start a business of your own. And even after dealing with angry customers, uncaring vendors, disgruntled employees, 80-120 hour work weeks (you're the boss, no vacation for you) and the long arm of the government, you become very successful. So successful, in fact, that you make well more than 300k in residual income. Because then, I would like to see your reaction when the government steps in and says "Mr. Redhot give me EVERYTHING you made greater than $300K." You will either be very pissed off or you will start cooking the books. Guaranteed.

What is the huge difference between those who make $999,999 a year and those who make $1,000,001 a year?

I am still baffled at your logic... If the owners of a company can only make $1,000,000, and the employees can only make $1,000,000.. then the rest of the profits go directly to the company. There is no way in hell that they would just give it away! They would reinvest it in their own company. No homeless people will find a home. No hungry people will find food. The company is still going to look out for itself and its owners first.

Because of greed? "Don't take away my $300k!!! A new Lexus is coming out next month and I won't be able to buy 3 of them if you cap my 300k!"

You make a honest point that until I make that much money a year, and until we are a communist nation, I don't what what the hell I'm talking about. I just feel the money could do much more for our country than an individual.

Or, get fedup and loose all ambition and close shop. I know i would. But one thing he doesnt understand. THe government will KEEP the money, it will not be trickled down to the poor or to the person making 100K. This has been proven in many socialist and communist countries.
